SC GOP Votes To Censure Lindsey Graham For Supporting Biden Infrastructure Bill

For his willingness to cooperate with his Democratic Senate colleagues and help pass an infrastructure bill that will provide $4.6 for highways in his home state, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has been censured by the Aiken County Republican Party, proving that many in the GOP are opposed to compromise and reaching across the aisle even when it benefits them and their constituents.

According to the Aiken Standard:

“The local party this week accused the powerful South Carolina Republican of playing both sides of the political aisle to his advantage, consciously violating Republican principles, backing bills ‘that target our freedoms,’ and, ultimately, wandering too far to the left.”

The $1.1 trillion dollar bipartisan infrastructure bill passed the Senate this week by a final vote of 69-30, with 19 Republicans cross the aisle to give their consent to the legislation, which will provide billions in funding for states and also be a boon to employment across the country.

After the bill passed, Graham issued a statement saying it was good for the Palmetto State:

“It provides much-needed help for our roads, bridges, ports, and expands broadband internet access. I have always been supportive of infrastructure investment and wish we had passed this years ago. This bill provides American infrastructure with a much-needed face-lift.”

But Republicans in Aiken County dubbed the bill a mistake, and claimed that it “degrades the rights of existing American businesses.” Their censure also included this about Graham:

“(His vote) shows a purposeful neglect to act within the fiscal conservative agenda that the Republicans elected him to diligently uphold.”

Interestingly, former President Donald Trump was also opposed to the bipartisan infrastructure bill, issuing a statement after it passed that read:

“Nobody will ever understand why Mitch McConnell allowed this non-infrastructure bill to be passed. He has given up all of his leverage for the big whopper of a bill that will follow. I have quietly said for years that Mitch McConnell is the most overrated man in politics—now I don’t have to be quiet anymore. He is working so hard to give Biden a victory, now they’ll go for the big one, including the biggest tax increases in the history of our Country.”

Sounds like sour grapes from Trump, who repeatedly talked about it being “infrastructure week” during his failed single term in office, but never actually got around to doing so with legislation or a package of suggestions for Congress, even though the GOP had control of both houses of Congress for Trump’s first two years in office.

Biden Leaves Reporter Dumbfounded When She Tries A Gotcha Question About ‘Defunding The Police’

On Thursday evening, as he was returning to the White House from a town hall in Cincinnati, President Joe Biden was approached by a reporter from the right-wing media outlet the Daily Caller, which was founded by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

The reporter, Shelby Talcott, asked the president:

“Mr. President, can you clarify what you said about no — that there’s no — no one in the Democratic Party is anti-police.”

Biden responded:

“I didn’t say that. I said that that — that is not the Democratic Party’s position. I’m the Democratic Party; I am President. So is the Speaker of the House and so is the –- the Majority Leader. We are not defunding the police.”

Talcott asked the same question again, even though Biden had already answered here:

“Okay. And are there people who — in the Democratic Party, who want to defund the police?”

That’s when the president shut Talcott down, leaving her dumbfounded when he asked:

“Are there people in the Republican Party who think we’re sucking the blood out of kids?”

Clearly, Biden was referencing the infamous QAnon conspiracy theory that’s so popular with right-wingers who support failed, one-term former President Donald Trump.

But perhaps the best part of the exchange is how outraged conservatives were that President Biden dared to raise the specter of QAnon as a way of proving just how absurd Republicans have become in recent years:

There are few things right-wingers hate more than when you use facts on them.

Jen Psaki Swats Down Fox Reporter For Suggesting Concern About Voting Rights Is ‘Funny’

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki wasn’t about to let Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy make light of voting rights in the United States, and she expertly swatted him down during Wednesday’s daily press briefing.

Doocy began by bringing up Texas Democrats who have left the state to keep Republicans from passing new voting restrictions, asking:

“About voting rights and Texas lawmakers who have come to Washington, do you know of any examples from his thirty six years in the senate that Joe Biden just hopped on a train and left town to avoid a vote that he knew that he was going to lose?”

Psaki replied:

“I think that the president’s view is these Texas legislators were making a statement through action in opposition to efforts in their state to oppose restrictions on people’s fundamental rights and the right to vote in their state. That is why they departed. The vice president met with these legislators yesterday. And the president, I should say, certainly applies their action and outspoken opposition to efforts to put in place restrictive measures in their state.”

That led Doocy to sarcastically respond:

“Maybe it’s funny to think about it that way.”

But the press secretary was having none of it, and she quickly shot Doocy down:

“I don’t think anything about this is funny. I think what is important to note though here is that there are 28 states, including Texas, where there are laws in place or in process to make it harder to vote and it requires bold action, it requires bold voices to speak out against that and make sure people understand their rights.”

Doocy thought he’d try and attack the administration again with this query:

“Does the candidate who is now  president who told people who knew how to make deals with Republicans, he’s meeting with Republicans today, does he think the best way to prevent something that he thinks is back from happening is for lawmakers to be hiding out in a different state or to go back and sit at the table?”

But the press secretary was more than ready for that one, too, telling the Fox flunky:

“The president believes you should work together in areas where you can find agreement, as he is on a bipartisan infrastructure framework that will help rebuild roadways, railways and bridges around our country. Also, that you should be outspoken where you have concerns about affronts to democracy.”

Game, set, and match, Jen Psaki.

Here’s the video of Psaki smacking down Doofus Doocy:

Congress Joe Biden U.S. Senate

Joe Biden Has Found A Way To Beat Mitch McConnell At His Own Game

Just as he did when Barack Obama was president, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has vowed to obstruct every piece of legislation that comes from the Biden administration, and he appears to have most Senate Republicans on board with the plan.

But what McConnell forgot to factor into his scheme is that President Joe Biden also served in the Senate for decades and knows how the upper chamber of Congress works, which means he has a distinct advantage over the Senate Minority Leader, who is now almost powerless to do anything other than make speeches.

Take for example the White House’s infrastructure package, which Biden continues to insist he wants to have Republicans support, so he keeps talking and negotiating with them.

As NBC National Political Reporter Sahil Kapur explained Wednesday on MSNBC, Biden is reaching out to the GOP because he wants to keep every Senate Democrat on board:

“He has to negotiate with Republicans, he believes, Democrats believe in order to convince the centrist holdouts in the Senate. And also, the House, which doesn’t get quite as much attention, they want to pursue bipartisanship as well. They want to go home and say they did everything they could. The key thing to know is when president Biden is negotiating with Sen. Caputo, he’s really negotiating with Mitch McConnell. There are not ten Republican votes unless you get Mitch McConnell’s signoff for anything major.”

And there’s another strategy in play when it comes to what Biden is doing regarding McConnell: It gives the president flexibility to cut deals on the side with the GOP that also serve to undermine McConnell and weaken his already tenuous hold on his caucus:

“(Biden) can potentially come to an agreement on a number or something like that, but translating that to actual legislation to get ten Republican votes is a much more complicated task. The White House’s challenge here is to figure out whether to cut a deal with Republicans. At best, he can probably get a small deal that falls far short of his target and try to do something separately with Democrats or maybe do the whole thing alone he thinks that could undercut the big package.”

President Biden would love to pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill, but he doesn’t need a single Republican as long as he keeps all 50 Democrats on board. Then he can use reconciliation and get a massive infrastructure package through Congress with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tiebreaking vote in the Senate.

Mitch McConnell is irrelevant and he knows it. And at the moment Joe Biden is besting him at his own game, proving that while the Kentucky Republican may well be a master Senate tactician, he’s met his match in this president.

White House Throws Major Shade At Trump With Statement On Release Of Joe Biden’s 2020 Tax Return

Monday was officially Tax Day for American taxpayers. Millions of us had to make sure we got our returns into the IRS before the midnight deadline.

As you might expect, the tax deadline also applies to the president of the United States, but during the Trump administration there was a running joke that even if the Donald did actually file a return, he probably did so under protest and may have even taken Internal Revenue to court in order to avoid having to fork over the money.

That’s what makes the statement from the Biden administration regarding the current president’s tax returns even more brilliant in the way it’s clearly meant to throw some epic shade at the previous head of state. Just take a look at this:

Now THAT’S what you call professional trolling, and it was an enormous hit on social media, where you could almost hear people standing and applauding:
