Kevin McCarthy Gets Dragged On Twitter For His Bizarre ‘Electric Cord Of Liberty’ Remark

Everywhere you turned today, Republicans were lining up to loudly whine about remarks made by President Joe Biden about “MAGA Republicans” who put their loyalty to one man over doing what’s best for the country.

But it was something House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said prior to the president’s speech that left many scratching their heads. Here’s the part of his speech that was so confusing:

“The American experiment and the good people who believe in it have not said their last word. The electric cord of liberty still sparks in our hearts. The spirit of the Pilgrims, the Patriots and the Pioneers still inspire our souls. Our best days are ahead of us, not behind us. Our nation can flourish again and under a new historic Republican majority.”

Umm…what? Electric cord of liberty? Does that connect to the pedestal fan of freedom or is it only to be used for the hair dryer of justice? So many questions!

It would appear, according to HuffPost, that McCarthy was trying to reference Abraham Lincoln:

The electric cord reference seemingly harks back to an 1858 Abraham Lincoln speech in which Lincoln said the Declaration of Independence “links the hearts of patriotic and liberty-loving men together” like an electric cord through the generations.

Sure, we all learned that in history class, right? If McCarthy wanted to pay tribute to Honest Abe, he should have said that’s where he got his electric cord reference.

Instead, we’re left to wonder what the purpose of the line was, which certainly set off lots of debate on Twitter. Take a look:

Capitol Insurrection Congress GOP January 6

Newt Gingrich Is Now A Target Of The January 6 House Select Committee

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich received a letter he probably wishes he never would have today, because he now knows that he’s a target of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

CNN reports:

The committee wants to learn more about communications Gingrich had with senior advisers in former President Donald Trump’s White House about television advertisements that relied on false claims about the election.

In the letter, committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) writes:

“The Committee has obtained information indicating that you have knowledge about former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, and we write to seek your voluntary cooperation. Some of the information that we have obtained includes email messages that you exchanged with senior advisors to President Trump and others, including Jared Kushner and Jason Miller, in which you provided detailed input into television advertisements and relied upon false claims about fraud in the 2020 election.

“These advertising efforts were not designed to encourage voting for a particular candidate. Instead, these efforts attempted to cast doubt on the outcome of the election after voting had already taken place.”

The letter even contains a direct quote from an email Gingrich sent to Kushner, who was a senior adviser in the Trump administration:

“The goal is to arouse the country’s anger through new verifiable information the American people have never seen before[.] . . . If we inform the American people in a way they find convincing and it arouses their anger[,] they will then bring pressure on legislators and governors.”

Gingrich was also involved in the “false electors” scheme, which is referenced by Thompson in the letter:

“The Committee is also interested in other communications you may have had with the White House, President Trump, the Trump legal team or any other persons involved in the events of January 6th. We ask that you preserve all records of such communications.”

Polling Expert Says One Often-Overlooked Group Of Voters Could Help Democrats Win The Midterms

Six months ago, as gas prices and inflation seemed to be spiraling out of control, the predicted midterm “red wave” appeared to be a foregone conclusion. Democrats would lose control of the House and Senate, pollsters predicted.

But with the election now just a little more than two months away, pollsters are having to recalculate their prediction models and are suggesting that Democrats may actually emerge victorious, which would be an enormous boost for President Joe Biden.

According to Harvard Polling expert John Della Volpe, the 2022 election looks a great deal like what we saw in 2018, as he explained to Mehdi Hassan of MSNBC:

“The reason that Democrats have control of the House, the Senate, and the White House is because of younger Americans. Donald Trump, in the big five battleground states, of 2020, won the vote of everyone over the age of 45. It is young people, under the age of 30, who won Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, by an average of 20 points. That’s the reason we have President Biden in the White House today, not President Trump.”

He continued:

“And now what we’re seeing…to me, it looks a lot like 2018. People did not expect to see a Democratic wave. They didn’t expect to see young people turn out. Days before the election, eyes were rolling among pundits. And we’re seeing the same thing I think today. Young people say they are angry, young people are registering, young people are showing up in real numbers in these primaries, in Kansas and other places. I think it’s very very likely that we see a significant change in the face of the electorate over the next several weeks.”

Comedian Nikki Glaser Burns Matt Gaetz Down With Hilarious NSFW Monologue

Comedian Nikki Glaser was guest host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday evening, and as part of her monologue she gave her take on prominent American political figures in both parties.

HuffPost reports that Glaser began with failed, one-term former president Donald Trump:

“What can you say about Donald Trump that he hasn’t already heard at this point? Oh, I know! ‘Yes I’d love to have sex with you.'”

Vice President Kamala Harris was next:

“I know we’re having fun right now, but on a serious note I do want to say Kamala Harris is still missing. If you have any information on her whereabouts please contact her parents. They miss her. We don’t, but they do.”

The most biting lines were saved for Republicans in Congress, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (SC) and Ted Cruz (TX), along with Reps. Matt Gaetz (FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA).

Gaetz got the most brutal (and accurate) roasting, with Glaser noting:

“Look at him: What a ladies’ man, right? No, I’m sorry, I mean, what a child’s man … You’d think he’d have better hair for someone so good at grooming.”

Lauren Boebert’s Neighbors Say Her Husband Drives Drunk And Her Kids Are Out Of Control

Be thankful you aren’t Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) neighbors, because based on just released 911 calls, it sounds like Boebert, her husband, and her children are not the sort of people you want living near you.

The Denver Post obtained recordings of the calls to police and report that Boebert’s neighbors said they feared for their lives at times because the Boebert clan “all have guns.”

The calls also provide additional context into what the neighbors, in Silt, said amounted to excessive speeding, property damage, possible drunken driving and threats made from a man whose family openly and regularly carries their firearms.

“I’m sure he’s loaded to the hilt. Do you know who his wife is? Lauren Boebert. She’s loaded. They all have guns,” one neighbor told a 911 dispatcher. “He just got chest to chest, face to face, looking to fight.”

The confrontation began on August 4, when one of Bobert’s sons was allegedly speeding down the street in a dune buggy, which led to a neighbor flagging the boy down and asking him to go slower:

“He’s going like 50 miles an hour and this is a residential lane, there’s kids,” one neighbor, told 911 dispatchers, according to the audio. “We tried to stop him and he’d just freakin’ cuss at us and just left.”

That’s when Jayson Boebert, the congresswoman’s husband, entered the picture:

By the time the second neighbor called 911, deputies hadn’t yet arrived. During that call, Jayson Boebert reportedly began to run the second neighbor’s mailbox over in a truck.

“There’s about to be some s— going down here,” the second neighbor told dispatchers. “It’s Lauren Boebert’s jackass husband, Jayson Boebert.”

During the call the second neighbor can be heard yelling at Jayson Boebert.

“Stop, you jackass! Get the f— out of here,” he yelled. “Come on, man. What are you doing? What did we do wrong?”

According to neighbors, Jayson Boebert also likes to drink and drive:

“Jayson’s probably drunk. You could probably get him for a DUI, he just drove down here,” he said.

Jayson Boebert already has a criminal record. In 2004, he pleaded guilty to exposing himself to two minors in a bowling alley.

For her part, Lauren Boebert is currently seeking a second term in Congress, but if voters are as fed up as her neighbors, the congresswoman may have trouble getting reeelected.
