Feds Investigating American Media Companies For Possible Ties To Russia

As right-wing media outlets such as Fox News, Newsmax, and One American News continue to push what many consider to be a pro-Russian and anti-American message in their broadcasts, the federal government is now making a concerted effort to determine if any of them have financial ties to Russia.

According to CNN, the investigation comes just days after punishing new sanctions were imposed by the Biden administration on Russia and even Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24:

Conducted jointly with the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, the FCC review covers more than just media entities regulated by the FCC’s broadcast licensing program, the person said. It also covers a vast array of telecommunications and infrastructure companies, including wireless providers, submarine cable operators and foreign telecom services that connect US-international phone calls, the person said.

It is not yet clear how many companies with ties to Russia the review may uncover, the person said, describing the initiative as a “top-to-bottom” effort to “identify the universe of licensees that have Russian ownership that should be on our radar.”

Fox News hosts have been extremely vocal in their support of the Kremlin, suggesting that the reason Putin invaded Ukraine is because he sensed “weakness” from President Joe Biden.

Here’s some of what right-wing media has broadcast regarding the Russian move on Ukraine:

Tucker Carlson: “Has Putin ever called me a racist? Has he threatened to get me fired for disagreeing with him? Has he shipped every middle-class job in my town to Russia? Did he manufacture a worldwide pandemic that wrecked my business and kept me indoors for two years? Is he teaching my children to embrace racial discrimination? Is he making fentanyl? Is he trying to snuff out Christianity?”

“They have a president, and we don’t,” former Trump lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani said on the conservative network Newsmax on Wednesday night. “Putin is prepared for this. Our incompetent [president] isn’t prepared for it.”

“How would you have avoided this conflict?” (Fox News host Laura) Ingraham asked Trump. The 45th president talked up his close relationship with Putin and decried the Biden administration’s “weakness.”

Of course, you can expect that Fox, Newsmax, and others will whine and suggest they’re being targeted because they present a conservative viewpoint. But if they have nothing to hide, there’s no need for them to be worried.

However, if any network of whatever political stripe does have financial ties to Russia, they need to be punished in the harshest manner possible.

Putin ‘Startled’ By Anti-War Protests In Russia – And Terrified They Signal An ‘Uprising’ Against Him

As Russian troops continue to attack Ukraine at the behest of Russian President and mass murderer Vladimir Putin, there are increasing reports that anti-war protests are taking place across the country in response to the sudden incursion into a neighboring country.

The Guardian reports:

Vladimir Putin has said there is broad public support for the invasion of Ukraine that he announced just before dawn on Thursday morning. But by evening, thousands of people in cities across Russia had defied police threats to take to central squares and protest against the military campaign.

Police had made at least 1,702 arrest in 53 Russian cities as of Thursday evening, according to the OVD-Info monitor, as they cracked down on the unsanctioned protests. Most of the arrests were made in Moscow and St Petersburg, where the crowds were largest.

The protesters chanted: “No to war!” as they exchanged shocked reactions to the attack on Ukraine.

If Putin expected the Russian people to support his unproved attack without saying a word, it appears he was badly mistaken, and that, according to a noted Russia expert, must have the Russian leader terrified.

Appearing on CNN, David Remnick, who has researched and written on Russia for decades, was asked what he thought about whether or not Putin actually wants to try and rebuild the old Soviet Union. He responded:

“I think in a sense that what Biden seemed to be talking about the re-creation of this old Soviet Union — and all 15 of what were republics and what are now independent nations — is not only impossible but crazily expensive. Why did empires collapse all over the world, historically, not only the Soviet Union but Austria-Hungary and all the rest? Empire is expensive. Russia is not a wealthy country. Its entire economy is the size of the economy of Texas. And most of those resources come right out of energy extractions and very fragile economy for a country that large. Today we saw the ruble crater. We saw the Russian stock market crater.”

Remnick then turned his focus to the anti-war protests which began shortly after the Russian military began its illegal incursion into Ukraine:

“We also saw something very curious, and I have to say maybe even unexpected. Despite the continuing crackdown on dissent in Russia that’s been going on for years, we saw protests of modest scale in dozens of Russian cities. And over — according to one report over 1,500 arrests, brutal arrests and so on. So to see politics on the street is, I think, startling to Vladimir Putin as what he dreads the most, what he fears the most is some kind of uprising against him. And so we — we’re coming to a reckoning here where internal Russian politics are concerned, too.”

All of this, Remnick concluded, suggests that Putin may not know exactly how he can extricate himself from the precarious position he has created for his country, which could lead to his downfall:

“The question here that has to be at the center is, what does Vladimir Putin think he’s doing? Toward what end? How, in any way, does this help bring prosperity or even security to Russia? What threat is he responding to? Was Ukraine threatening Russia? Was NATO threatening Russia? No. I think that Putin, in large measure — not to make this into a novel — but in large measure, is responding to his own self-drama as a man of great power and wanting to expand Russian power, revive Russian power, after his failure to bring prosperity to Russia after 22 years in power.”

That last line is especially telling when it comes to Putin: He has failed to bring prosperity to Russia after 22 years in power. So now he thinks he can make up for that failure by invading his neighbors and threatening the NATO alliance. Sounds like a scenario that ends with Vladimir in a bunker under the Kremlin, gun in one hand and a dose of cyanide in the other. Here’s hoping that scenario plays out soon.

Ted Cruz Tried To Troll Jen Psaki With A Nickname But Only Wound Up Owning Himself

Some people never learn.

Take, for example, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who loves to try and troll people he disagrees with, but almost always fails and winds up with egg on his face.

Such was the case Thursday when Cruz spoke at CPAC in Orlando, Florida, Mediaite reports:

After referencing (White House Press Secretary Jen) Psaki, Cruz actually called out the audience out for not booing the mere mention of her.

The audience obliged.

“Boooo!”

“You know, Peppermint Patty deserves some love,” Cruz said, comparing Psaki to the character from Peanuts

When a reporter referenced Cruz’s comments at the daily White House press briefing, Psaki had the perfect retort:

“Don’t tell him I like Peppermint Patty. So I’m not going to take it too offensively. Sen. Cruz, I like Peppermint Patty. I’m a little tougher than that, but there you go.”

Cruz also got a thorough roasting on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/Brelwi1/status/1496996371991248904?s=20&t=ooC6NMDVUpAEaM55YdZSuQ

Of course, Ted will never be able to live down his nickname, Cancun Cruz, so his only option is to try and divert attention from himself to someone else. Problem is, he looks like an asshole either way.

Don Jr: My Daddy Could Have Stopped Putin But Voters Didn’t Like His ‘Mean Tweets’

It’s been less than 24 hours since Russia invaded Ukraine, but we’re already being bombarded with revisionist history from right-wing media outlets and bald-faced lies from congressional Republicans such as Rep. Elise Stefanink of New York, who issued a statement that reads in part:

“After just one year of a weak, feckless, and unfit President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief, the world is less safe. Rather than peace through strength, we are witnessing Joe Biden’s foreign policy of war through weakness. For the past year, our adversaries around the world have been assessing and measuring Joe Biden’s leadership on the world stage, and he has abysmally failed on every metric.”

To hear many conservatives/Trump groupies tell it, the failed, one-term former president kept Putin in line and the Russian despot would never have dared to invade a neighbor if Donnie was still in office. Of course, what they fail to mention is that Putin didn’t want to embarrass his key American asset, so of course he wasn’t going to invade another nation.

After all, this is the same Donald Trump who was asked by disgraced former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in 2017 if he thought Putin was a killer:

“I do respect him. Well, I respect a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get along with them,” Trump told O’Reilly.

O’Reilly pressed on, declaring to the president that “Putin is a killer.”

Unfazed, Trump didn’t back away, but rather compared Putin’s reputation for extrajudicial killings with the United States’.

“There are a lot of killers. We have a lot of killers,” Trump said. “Well, you think our country is so innocent?”

But perhaps the most blatantly snide and untimely attempt to put a rosy patina on the nightmare that was the Trump administration comes from none other than Donald Trump Jr., who never passes on an opportunity to curry favor with his old man because his father is the only person in the United States who would hire him.

According to Junior, his daddy would have made bad man Putin stay in his box, but American voters were too offended by all the mean tweets:

Don Jr. was hit with well-deserved anger and mockery from social media:

https://twitter.com/BettyBowers/status/1496932113052012545?s=20&t=KK5DZn_VgH2m0iBDyuWVaQ

https://twitter.com/BlueSwede2000/status/1496934181003218952?s=20&t=KK5DZn_VgH2m0iBDyuWVaQ

The best thing about Junior’s stupid tweet is that it proves he’s definitely the dumbest of the Trump spawn.

GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik Gets Pelted With Angry Responses To Her ‘Despicable’ Statement On Ukraine

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is the third-highest ranking member of the GOP in the House, and her statement on the Russian invasion of Ukraine proves that she and the vast majority of her party are more loyal to Vladimir Putin than to the president of the United States.

Stefanik’s statement reads:

“After just one year of a weak, feckless, and unfit President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief, the world is less safe. Rather than peace through strength, we are witnessing Joe Biden’s foreign policy of war through weakness. For the past year, our adversaries around the world have been assessing and measuring Joe Biden’s leadership on the world stage, and he has abysmally failed on every metric.”

Reaction on Twitter to Stefanik’s disgusting post was immediate and harsh:
