Ted Cruz Got His A*s Handed To Him At A Senate Hearing – So He Stormed Out Like A Child

Though it’s been said millions of times before, it bears repeating: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is the biggest, most obnoxious douchebag in the U.S. Senate.

Cruz proved what a petulant shitbag he is once again recently during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence when he accused Democrats of wanting to “defund the police,” which is a lie that gets repeated by conservatives whenever anyone says there’s far too much death and destruction caused by the weapons of mass murder produced by arms companies in the United States:

“You just said a moment ago that no Democrat favors abolishing the police. If that were the case why did every single Democrat vote to confirm Vanita Gupta—a nominee for the number three position at the Department of Justice who said last year in writing, in written testimony before this Senate, advocated abolishing the police?”

Of course, what Cruz said contains not a shred of truth. Gupta has written that she favors using some of the funds currently spent on cops to programs that would focus on improving care for the mentally ill, addressing the underlying economic causes of violent crime, and looking for alternatives to merely hiring more police officers.

Despite having already misstated what Ms. Gupta stands for, Cruz continued to trash a woman who dares to have an opinion that differs from his:

“And [Gupta] was confirmed by one vote. Every single Democrat was the necessary vote to confirm a radical who advocated abolishing the police and just this week we’re taking up Kristin Clarke, another radical, who has last year in testimony before this Senate advocated abolishing the police. If you don’t support abolishing the police why do you keep voting for nominees who advocate abolishing the police?”

But Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT) called Cruz out for his nonsense, reminding him:

“As you well know Senator Cruz, that is a complete distortion of their positions. We’re not here to talk about those nominees. If you want to stay, we can do it at the end of the hearing. But right now we’re going to move on.”

Rather than stay and participate in rest of the hearing, Cruz stood up and walked out like a child taking his toy and running home to mommy. Seems the Texas senator isn’t just a lying asshat, he’s also unable to take criticism, which is a sure sign of insecurity.

Maybe it’s time to rename Sen. Cruz the Raving Infantile Liar. It’s a hell of a lot more accurate.

Former Pentagon Chief Ready To Toss Trump Under The Bus When He Testifies To Congress: Report

When he removed Mark Esper from his post as Secretary of Defense days after the 2020 election, he replaced him with what he believed was a toady: Chris Miller.

Two months later, of course, the horrific Capitol insurrection took place, and the delayed deployment of National Guard troops was a major factor in the riot being more prolonged that it had to be.

On Wednesday, Miller will testify before the House Oversight Committee on what transpired on January 6, 2020, and Axios reports he will throw failed, one-term former President Donald Trump under the proverbial bus:

“Former President Trump’s acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller has been called to testify this Wednesday on ‘unanswered questions’ about the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee said Monday.

Why it matters: Miller, who Trump appointed to lead the Pentagon after firing Mark Esper following the 2020 election, has said he believes Trump incited the mob on Jan. 6 with his speech before the deadly riot.

Specifically, Miller told Vice News:

“Would anybody have marched on the Capitol, and tried to overrun the Capitol, without the president’s speech? I think it’s pretty much definitive that wouldn’t have happened.”

Cause and effect. Trump stirred up the crowd which proceeded to march on the Capitol and kill a member of the Capitol Police. Even former members of his administration know Donald Trump engaged in sedition by lighting the match that led to the insurrection and left five people dead.

If there is any justice in this world, Trump will be charged for his role in what transpired on Jan. 6. Otherwise, why bother having laws in the first place?

Multiple States Confirm They’re Investigating Trump For His Alleged Crimes

Now that Donald Trump is no longer in office, he doesn’t have the legal protections afforded to sitting presidents.

Those protections are a big deal for a man who has engaged in as much alleged criminal behavior as the failed, one-term former president, and it’s now clear that Trump is under siege from multiple jurisdictions, including New York, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia.

While it has long been known that both Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and New York Attorney General Tish James are actively investigating Trump and the Trump Organization and D.C. has launched a probe of possible financial crimes related to the 2016 Trump inaugural, an interview with Maura Healey, the AG of Massachusetts, makes it clear that Trump is in tremendous legal jeopardy in the Bay State, too.

Speaking with Emily Jane Fox of Vanity Fair, Healey noted:

“As a state A.G., I’m going to be limited in what I can say, but it is important that Donald Trump, his enablers, those who acted in concert with him and furthered actions that may have been illegal, criminal or otherwise, are held accountable just as anyone else needs to be held accountable. Much of this will depend on facts and law. Obviously there are investigations underway, and I’m confident that the right offices will do their jobs.”

And Healey made it clear she isn’t just planning to go after Trump. His family will also be under the microscope:

“I couldn’t care less about Donald Trump. I am very happy to see him go. I think about his incompetence as there are tens of thousands of COVID-19 cases every day. It’s outrageous what he’s done—his callousness, his incompetence, his narcissism, his bullying, how he’s hurt so many people. Either he’s ignorant or callous or both, and I think members of his family are as well. They’re very good at emotionally appealing to people and saying things that resonate.”

The law is about to catch up with Donald Trump, his family, his company, and his enablers.

Joy Reid: Ron DeSantis Is On The Verge Of Losing His 2022 Bid For Reelection

Not so long ago, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was seen as a legitimate contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, one of the rising GOP stars who even had the blessings of failed, one-term former President Donald Trump.

But that was before COVID-19 hit and DeSantis mishandled the pandemic in the Sunshine State. Seniors began dying by the tens of thousands and the Florida governor allegedly sold vaccines for the deadly disease to the highest bidder as elderly Floridians struggled to take their next breath.

MSNBC host Joy Reid noted recently that DeSantis is in one hell of a pickle, especially since his newly-announced lax health standards are scaring away businesses, most notably the cruise ship industry, which is a major financial force in Florida. Here’s what Reid posted on Twitter:

DeSantis recently signed a very harsh voter suppression bill, but while he’s counting on that to keep minority participation in the 2022 election down, the courts still have to weigh in on the matter, and voters could be angry enough to send the Florida GOP a loud message about what happens when you try to take away people’s right to cast a ballot.

Granted, DeSantis is the incumbent, and that’s a major advantage in any election. But as we saw in 2020, an unpopular incumbent president can indeed lose an election.

The Justice Department Is Forcing The Arizona GOP To Abandon The Next Step Of Their Election ‘Audit’

Republicans in the Arizona Senate have decided to abandon the next phase of their “audit” of the 2020 election in the Grand Canyon State, and it appears they did so as a result of actions taken by the Department of Justice.

AZCentral reports:

“The Arizona Senate is dropping, for now, a controversial plan to go door-to-door to ask local residents about their voting history as part of its audit of Maricopa County’s election.

“The decision, which Senate President Karen Fann included in a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday, comes after federal officials raised concerns that the canvassing could violate civil rights laws aimed to prevent voter intimidation.”

This is an encouraging sign, because it suggests that the DOJ will be actively involved in fighting against states that attempt to intimidate voters or restrict the rights of people to cast a ballot.

Specifically, the Justice Department wrote Fann and let her know that asking people how they voted is almost an intimidation tactic used to target minority communities.

In the letter, Pamela S. Karlan, principal deputy assistant attorney general in the department’s Civil Rights Division, wrote:

“Such investigative efforts can have a significant intimidating effect on qualified voters that can deter them from seeking to vote in the future.”

Arizona Republicans have also suggested that the 2020 election was rigged in their state by using ballots flown in from Asia. John Brakey, a Tucson activist involved in the audit, remarked:

“There’s accusations that 40,000 ballots were flown in and stuffed into the box and it came from the Southeast part of the world, Asia. And what they’re doing is to find out if there’s bamboo in the paper.”

The DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland is keeping their pledge to preserve, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution,
