Speaking to National Rifle Association (NRA) on Friday in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, failed one-term, twice-impeached, and multiply-indicted former president Donald Trump made one of his most ridiculous claims yet: Democrats want to rename the Keystone State.
According to Trump, it’s absolutely imperative that he win in November.
While he was at it, Trump also raised the specter of schools and other public institutions not being named after Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
Where did Trump even get the idea that Pennsylvania could be renamed, even though absolutely no one has suggested that? It appears to be based on a report that National Park Service proposed removing a statue of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, from a park in Philadelphia.
The park service later withdrew its proposal and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) announced, “I’m pleased Welcome Park will remain the rightful home of this William Penn statue — right here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Penn founded.”
Social media users had plenty to say about Trump’s obvious scare tactic.
