Congress GOP The Karma Is Gonna Get Ya

Jamie Raskin Mocks McCarthy: Karma From Jan. 6 Led To Your ‘Once-In-A-Century Humiliation’ Today

In what may well go down as one of the most humiliating days for any member of Congress in the history of the American republic, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to win the 218 votes needed from the House Republican caucus that would have made him the next Speaker of the House.

According to NPR, McCarthy now holds a dubious honor.

Tuesday’s vote was the first time in a century that the election of a House speaker took multiple ballots to complete. The longest vote in U.S. history took place in 1855, lasting 133 rounds over two months, from December 1855 to February 1856.

McCarthy faces a Republican bloc of critics who want changes to the way the House operates. Although he’s given in to many of their demands, he remains short of the votes needed.

Instead of celebrating their return to the majority on the first day, McCarthy and other GOP leaders were sorting out how to respond to an open rebellion that showcased division and cast doubt on their ability to govern.

Right-wing members of the GOP caucus vowed Monday they would not budge and will never support McCarthy.

For his part, McCarthy suggested he would not withdraw his name from consideration, even though that might be the only way he can prevent further humiliation, telling reporters:

“They can go through whoever they want to go through, and they’ll come to the conclusion that they don’t, they can’t get there.”

But according to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the only person to blame for McCarthy’s predicament is McCarthy himself.

Raskin, who served on the January 6 House Select Committee, mocked McCarthy via Twitter, reminding him that the reason for his failure lies with the person he sees whenever he looks in the mirror.

“This once-in-a-century humiliation of a party’s nominee for Speaker is chickens coming home to roost for McCarthy, who whitewashed right-wing insurrectionism on the House floor. Nobody’s getting killed now, but the House GOP now sleeps in the bed they made with Trump and Bannon.”

Exactly. Perfectly stated. Thank you, Congressman Raskin, for saying what we were all thinking.

Jamie Raskin Masterfully Mocks ‘Mr. Snowflake’ Donald Trump – And It’s Perfect

Not long after the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection subpoenaed failed, one-term, twice-impeached former president Donald Trump, the disgraced ex-president responded with a rambling, conspiracy-theory letter which reiterated his many lies about the 2020 election.

Trump’s letter reads in part:

“This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, and have targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself.”

The missive ends with this angry flourish:

“The people of this Country will not stand for unequal justice under the law, or Liberty and Justice for some. Election Day is coming. We demand answers on the Crime of the Century.”

Same bullshit, different day.

For a rebuttal, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the Jan.6 committee, appeared on MSNBC and expertly mocked Trump, HuffPost reports:

“I mean, that letter, including the use of the royal ‘we,’ which was pretty jarring, is just an outrageous distraction from the reality to the extent that there’s anything substance or substantive there.”

However, Raskin was just getting warmed up, adding:

“They can’t say. They just have a feeling. And in fact, Trump uses that too in this enormously revealing letter, where he says lots of people ‘feel’ that there was fraud.

“I’m sorry. Your feelings, Mr. Snowflake, cannot dictate the course of the future of the republic. No, your feelings cannot dictate our elections.”

Game, set, and match Jamie Raskin.

WATCH: Jamie Raskin Burns Republicans Down With Impassioned Speech About Democracy

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is truly an American treasure and one of the most important Democrats in the country. Why? Because he doesn’t take any bull and isn’t afraid to speak truth to power.

Raskin is especially eloquent when he discusses the perversion of American democracy that the Republican Party in the Age of Trump has engaged in for one purpose: Power.

The Maryland Democrat took to the House floor Wednesday and gave a speech that will go down in history as one of the best ever given by any member of Congress.

The topic of Congressman Raskin’s speech was today’s GOP, whom he excoriated for being anti-democratic, snuggled up with Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin, and enemies of democracy.

“America is a country of individual freedom and the rights of the people to make their own decisions, not having busy body theocrat politicians in state capitols how to make their own decisions about their careers, their lives, their families, and their healthcare, and certainly not allowing Lindsey Graham to tell the women of America what their destiny will be, and they won’t say a word about it.

“They’ll blame Joe Biden for global inflation. They’ll blame Joe Biden for Vladimir Putin’s filthy imperialist invasion of Russia (Ukraine). I hear them denounce Joe Biden.  They won’t denounce Vladimir Putin for one second.”

But it was what Raskin said next that all Americans need to hear before they cast a ballot in the midterm elections:

“We’re on the side of small ‘d’ democrats all over the world against the autocrats like Putin, against the theocrats like the people who would dictate to the women of America their own health decisions. We’re against the tyrants and bullies and the despots. We’re against presidents who get into office and try to dictate the political decision-making of individual members of the workforce and push their ideological program into the government, and we’re for defending whistleblowers. We’re for defending the Census. We’re for defending democratic institutions in America.”

WATCH Jamie Raskin Mock Marjorie Greene By Telling Her It ‘Sounds Like You Want To Arm’ Fetuses

No one in Congress seems to agitate Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) more than Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD), probably because Raskin is everything Greene will never be: Intelligent, witty, and accomplished.

That dynamic was on full display during a hearing of the House Rules Committee at which Greene was testifying on the issue of the Second Amendment when Raskin asked her:

“Do you think the students should be armed?”

Greene replied:

“I think children should be trained with firearms.”

Raskin retorted:

“So they can repel someone who comes in?”

Getting agitated, Greene said:

“That’s not what I said. I said I believe children should be trained with firearms so they understand how to use them.”

The debate then shifted to the topic of abortion, which led Greene to get apoplectic:

“Abortion kills babies! We’re talking about kids being killed, abortion kills innocent children… They can’t protect themselves at all from this horrific procedure.”

That led Raskin to expertly mock the Georgia Republican by telling her:

“Sounds like you want to arm them.”

All Greene could muster in response was a weak:

“That’s impossible. That’s impossible, Mr. Raskin.”

Game, set, and match Jamie Raskin. He managed to troll Greene right to her face.

Jamie Raskin: 1/6 Committee Has Evidence Of A ‘Lot More Than Incitement’ Against Trump

In a little more than 48 hours, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol will hold its first public hearing, and one of the key members of the panel, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), is making it clear that the evidence will show former President Donald Trump did a great deal more than just incite the insurrection that left five people dead.

Speaking to the Washington Post on Monday, Raskin noted:

“The select committee has found evidence about a lot more than incitement here.”

Raskin added that what transpired on Jan. 6 had been carefully planned and coordinated, and that the committee has found evidence of concerted planning and premeditated activity.”

“The idea that all of this was just a rowdy demonstration that spontaneously got a little bit out of control is absurd. You don’t almost knock over the U.S. government by accident.”

The committee will explain, Raskin told The Post, all of the details regarding the larger conspiracy to “overturn the 2020 presidential election and block the transfer of power.”

“This is an extraordinary and unprecedented event in our history. You really have to go back to the Civil War to understand anything like it.”

According to HuffPost, Raskin believes the facts support indictments against everyone who played a role in the attack:

Following the committee’s lengthy investigation involving some 1,000 witnesses and the examination of 125,000 documents, “we think that there is overwhelming evidence of this plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election in coordination with a violent assault on our body,” Raskin noted.

“We’re going to lay it all out there, but the prosecutors are going to have to sort it out with respect to individual defendants … I have confidence in the ability of the Department of Justice to do their job.”

The first hearing begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 9 and can be viewed on most of the major news networks.
