GOP U.S. Senate WTF?!

GOP Senator Says He Fears Biden’s Black SCOTUS Nominee Won’t Know A ‘Law Book From A J. Crew Catalog’

Thought you’d heard all of the disgustingly bigoted and downright racist things that Republicans could possibly say about the next Supreme Court nominee being a black woman? Well, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) just took the grand prize with remarks he made.

According to Salon, Kennedy had this to say:

“No. 1, I want a nominee who knows a law book from a J.Crew catalog,” Kennedy told Politico Tuesday after meeting with the GOP leaders. “No. 2, I want a nominee who’s not going to try to rewrite the Constitution every other Thursday to try to advance a ‘woke agenda.'”

What exactly is a “woke agenda?”? Does Sen. Kennedy mean he cannot stomach the thought of a woman of color daring to interpret the Constitution due to her race and sex? Probably, though he’d never admit that for the record.

Oddly enough, Kennedy has a very scholarly background, though he prefers to come across as a hick:

Kennedy, an Oxford-educated lawyer and career politician, rebranded himself as a folksy Republican after a long stint as a Democrat. Louisiana publications have likened his one-liners to Foghorn Leghorn but people who knew him before he became a prominent Republican told BuzzFeed News last year that it’s all an act (which he denies).

Perhaps the best response to Kennedy’s disgusting remarks came from MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan:

Kennedy, however, isn’t the only member of the GOP suggesting that a black woman shouldn’t be appointed to the court. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also made sure to flash his bigot credentials:

“The fact that he’s willing to make a promise at the outset, that it must be a Black woman, I got to say that’s offensive. You know, Black women are what, 6 percent of the U.S. population? He’s saying to 94 percent of Americans, ‘I don’t give a damn about you, you are ineligible.’”

All of this hue and cry coming from the right is about race, plain and simple, not being “woke” or any other bullshit excuse. You see, the GOP right wing thinks black women aren’t fit for service on the highest court in the land. They’d rather see all people of color remain silent and subservient.
