Clause In Tucker Carlson’s Fox Contract May Leave Him No Option But Running For President In 2024

Social media is filled with speculation today on the topic of where former Fox News host Tucker Carlson will soon be employed. Might he sign with a right-wing network such as Newsmax or One America News? Or will he decide to do a strictly online show and broadcast that way?

Before you believe any rumors about where Carlson is headed, consider that it’s likely his Fox contract contains what’s known as a non-compete clause, which is defined by Reuters as “contracts between an employer and an employee that are typically signed at the start of their business relationship. Essentially, a non-compete agreement prohibits the employee from competing with the business directly or indirectly for a specific duration of time after their employment has ended.”

In other words, Carlson may be banned from starting or joining any entity that competes directly with Fox, meaning he would be in violation of an agreement he signed his name to when he first joined the network. That means he would forfeit the money Fox agreed to pay him in the contract.

And that, according to former GOP strategist Rick Wilson, suggests that Carlson may find the only option he has is running for office, including a run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Wilson shared his thoughts on Twitter, writing, “The shock of this will ripple through the enormous right-wing media ecosystem for ages to come. He was the big goal for MAGA activists: the Tucker Hit. Consider this: Ron DeSantis predicated his entire campaign on winning the ‘Tucker Primary.'”

That led Wilson to go one step further.

“Many people on the right have adopted a position that may be wishcasting; ‘Tucker will be back on a new streaming channel tomorrow and you’ll rue the day, libtards!’ Maybe not. Fox probably has a pretty stiff noncompete in his contract, so I wouldn’t count on the Tucker Carlson White Power Hour on the Blaze or Daily Wire any time soon. TBD, of course, but Fox will leak those details soon enough to chill the waters.

“Which leads us to a fascinating prospect…”

“What if he runs? He’s rich enough. He’d instantly have an online fundraising juggernaut second only to Trump, and perhaps surpassing him. He’s polarizing, terrible, and utterly amoral…in short, better than Ron DeSantis for the base. I’d argue he’s the only Republican who presents a material danger to Donald Trump in a primary. Celebrity, money, mental acuity, cynicism, pro-Putin isolationism, and an overt love of authoritarianism are a pretty strong secret sauce for the MAGA base. Celebrity got Trump the WH.”

“It could certainly do the same for Tucker. And spare me your ‘That could never happen. Even Trump’s GOP would never vote for a former TV host pushing white replacement theory.’ That’s PRECISELY who they’d vote for.”

Conservatives Pitch A Fit Over Carlson’s Exit From Fox: ‘What’s Happening To America?!’

April 24, 2023 will go down as a very dark day for bigots, conservatives, and right-wing a-holes because it’s the day that Fox News officially said they were done with host Tucker Carlson, who had been at the network since 2009.

Reportedly, in his most recent contract with Fox, Carlson pulled down $8 million a year.

But to read the wailing and gnashing of teeth on Twitter, you’d have thought it was the end of American civilization and a harbinger of the Apocalypse.

Take a look at some of the online overreaction:

Here’s something for those bemoaning Carlson’s departure, direct from the mouth of Eric Cartman:

Hakeem Jeffries Slams ‘Totally Out Of Control’ Marjorie Taylor Greene For Her Antics

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) shredded Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on Thursday for her continued praise of and support for Pentagon leaker Jack Teixeira, noting that she’s “totally out of control” and the face of the Republican Party.

“The extreme MAGA Republicans are showing the American people who they are,” Jeffries said at his weekly press conference. They’re not even trying to hide their extremism. And Exhibit A is Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

“She’s totally out of control. But they don’t care,” he continued. “The leadership apparently supports Marjorie Taylor Greene. The rank-and-file Republicans apparently support Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s allowed to lie. She’s allowed to debase the institution. Apparently, Marjorie Taylor Greene is even allowed to elevate someone who appears to have engaged in espionage and treason against the United States of America.”

“And it doesn’t matter. Because Marjorie Taylor Greene is the face of this version of the House Republican conference,” Jeffries added.

Greene is so out of control that the the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) told her to be quiet when she verbally attacked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a Wednesday hearing, which led to reports that some of her fellow GOP House members wanted her removed from the committee.

LISTEN To Secret Recordings Of Rudy Giuliani Telling Fox News There Was No Voter Fraud

With the defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News set to begin today with jury selection, new recordings have come to light that will be part of the evidence against Fox.

Wednesday evening on MSNBC, host Alex Wagner played some of the tapes, which were provided by former Fox News producer Abby Grossberg, who is also suing the network for allowing a culture of sexual harassment to exist.

In one of the recordings, Fox host Maria Bartiromo is speaking with Rudy Giuliani and an official working with the 2020 Trump presidential campaign.

Mediaite provided a transcript of the discussion.

BARTIROMO: I’m going to be asking you for as much evidence as you can tell us about these lawsuits. Whatever you can tell us in terms of evidence would be really helpful. Ok, great.

GIULIANI: I can tell you exactly what we have.

BARTIROMO: Perfect. And what about the software, this dominion software

GIULIANI: That’s a little harder–

BARTIROMO: Seems troubling.

GIULIANI: –to tell you right–it’s being analyzed right now. I mean, there are a couple of races that have been reversed because the Democrat was triple-counted, two already in Michigan. Now, whether that applies for the whole state or not, I can’t tell you yet.

BARTIROMO: This Dominion software, does Nancy Pelosi have an interest in it?

GIULIANI: I’ve read that. I can’t prove that.

The other recording is of a Trump campaign official talking to a Fox News producer.

FOX NEWS PRODUCER: Are any of the machines–I know it was on War Room the other day with Steve Bannon. Have any of the machines been looked at? He had said that one was looked at in Georgia.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN OFFICIAL: I’d have to check on that in terms of Georgia. I know during the audit, they did check on those machines. They’re really–if we can just go off the record for one second?

FOX NEWS PRODUCER: Yeah, of course. I don’t want us to say it if it’s not. That’s why we’re checking.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN OFFICIAL: Yeah, I would–I think they have looked at the machines. When the secretary of state did its audit, there was a lot, I think a fair bit of looking at the machines. The audit came in pretty darn close to what the machine count was with the receipts. So, I don’t know the outcome of those, but our understanding – again, this is from the secretary of state’s office – was that there weren’t any physical issues with machines on those inspections

Dominion is seeking $1.6 billion from Fox for its lies about the 2020 election.

Fox Attorneys Won’t Be Allowed To Use Critical Defense Arguments In Dominion Lawsuit: Report

Now that a judge has decided a jury will be empaneled to hear the case of Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News, the conservative network is about to face a monumental task of defending itself from a $1.6 billion lawsuit without several crucial defense arguments.

That was the topic of discussion Sunday on MSNBC when host Katie Phang spoke with Jeremy Peters of The New York Times.

“Judge Eric Davis on Friday decimated much of Fox’s potential trial defenses, ruling that Fox cannot invoke the neutral report privilege because the evidence does not support that Fox conducted good faith reporting, Phang noted. “The judge is also blocking Fox from using the fair reporting privilege because the statements made by Fox and its guests were not related to official proceedings.”

Peters concurred with Phang, adding, “When the jury gets the case several of Fox’s key arguments will not be available for its lawyers to make.”

The Times reporter then elaborated:

“Several of these will have already been decided in Dominion’s favor because of the judge’s decision on Friday. So what this does is it significantly limits Fox’s ability to mount a defense and leaves for the jury the key question of whether or not there is enough evidence to show that Fox hosts, producers and executives knew what they were putting on the air was false or at least recklessly disregarded information showing that it was false.”

“That is how you get to potentially significant and sizeable judgment against Fox News,” Peters added. “Dominion is asking for $1.6 billion and appears that, unless this settles, which I think it’s highly unlikely at this point, and has already been highly unlikely because Fox appears to be preserving its options for appeal here, this is going to head to the jury and it will be one of the most significant and far-reaching defamation suits against a major media company that we have seen in decades.”

Fox is also facing a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Smartmatic, an election and software technology company.

The first line of that lawsuit lays out exactly how both Smartmatic and Dominion plan to win their cases against Fox:

“The Earth is round. Two plus two equals four. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the 2020 election for President and Vice President of the United States. The election was not stolen, rigged, or fixed. These are facts. They are demonstrable and irrefutable.”

None of those facts are up for debate. And they could wind up bankrupting Fox.
