Trump Looked Like A ‘Defeated Defendant’ At Tuesday Court Hearing: Legal Expert

When he appeared with his attorneys Tuesday before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to claim he had “absolute immunity” from crimes he may have committed while serving as president, Donald Trump looked like a “defeated defendant,” according to former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner.

Trump’s demeanor, Kirschner noted, was “kind of jarring.”

Speaking with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on “The Last Word” Tuesday evening, Kirschner elaborated on his thoughts.

“It seemed a little tense and I will say I am not a political pundit or expert — I don’t play one on TV — but it was kind of jarring to see the leading candidate for the Republican nomination for president, a former president of the United States, come in and behave entirely like a defendant and not like a politician.”

“I think I know what retail politics means; he didn’t look anybody in the eye, didn’t take an interest in anyone around, and he kept his head down. He sort of lumbered forward to counsel table and plopped down.”

Instead of looking like a proud ex-president, Kirschner noted that Trump looked more like a “defeated defendant who was kind of resigned to his fate.”

Could it be that Trump is coming to the realization that he can no longer dodge responsibility for his actions? And does he fully understand that he may wind up behind prison bars for what remains of his life? Based on the way he acted Tuesday, it could well be that Donnie is starting to understand he’s completely screwed.
