During an appearance at the University of Cambridge in the UK recently, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi didn’t pull her punches as she discussed the current state of the Republican Party and its unending devotion to Donald Trump, a man who will likely go down in history as the worst president in U.S. history.
Pelosi began by talking about the GOP, Newsweek notes:
The House Speaker added that today’s Republicans seem determined to ignore the fact that the vast majority of Americans support a woman’s right to make her own reproductive choices and requiring background checks to purchase a gun:
Asked for the thoughts on Trump, she said she rarely talks about him anymore, but did get one zinger in that’s certain to enrage the ex-president:
She then attached this addendum to the subject of Trump:
That line drew tremendous applause from the audience, and it’s only a matter of time before the failed, one-term loser POTUS will feel a need to respond.
Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is terrified, and he’s not even good at hiding his fear.
Sensing that the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection is about to have his and other members of the GOP’s phone records as part of their investigation, Gaetz decided he’d publicly threaten Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
During an interview on Real America’s Voice, Gaetz said he plans to seize Pelosi’s phone records if the GOP happens to retake control of Congress after the 2022 midterm elections:
If Gaetz and others in the GOP did nothing wrong on Jan. 6, why are they afraid of letting all the information come out so the American people can see it and judge their actions for themselves?
Gaetz ended his rant by declaring:
Um, no. It’s not unprecedented and it’s also not Marxist. Gaetz is clearly using words he doesn’t even know the meaning of.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is also making idle threats against any telecommunications provider who agrees to hand over phone records to the Select Committee, firing off a statement on Tuesday:
“If these companies comply with the Democrat order to turn over private information, they are in violation of federal law and subject to losing their ability to operate in the United States. If companies still choose to violate federal law, a Republican majority will not forget and will stand with Americans to hold them fully accountable under the law.”
Of course, McCarthy is wrong. It is NOT a violation of any federal law to comply with a request from a congressional committee. It never has been. McCarthy is just blowing smoke.
Matt and his Republican co-conspirators are worried. And considering what they played a part in — an attempted coup — they damn well should be.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) thought he’d post a poll on Twitter in an attempt to troll public figures he disagrees with, but the Ohio congressman wound up with egg on his face.
Jordan posted this on his Twitter feed:
But as HuffPost notes, Jordan isn’t exactly trustworthy, either:
“Jordan voted to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory and has amplified Trump’s election lies.”
Jordan has also been accused of failing to report the sexual abuse of wrestlers when he was an assistant coach at Ohio State University and the team doctor allegedly molested young OSU wrestlers.
It didn’t take long before social media slapped Jordan down:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) outdid herself recently, comparing mask mandates in the House of Representatives to the Holocaust and then giving Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) a disgusting nickname which wound up getting her pelted with online barbs.
First came the Holocaust comment, which the Georgia Republican made while speaking with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network. She told Brody on his podcast:
That led the American Jewish Congress to issue a statement criticizing Greene:
“You can never compare health-related restrictions with yellow stars gas chambers and other Nazi atrocities. Such comparisons demean the Holocaust and contaminate American political speech. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene must immediately retract and apologize.”
The Holocaust comments were merely the prelude for a tweet Greene sent out in which she personally attacked Speaker Pelosi:
WTF is that all about?! If Greene doesn’t want to observe the House mask mandate, maybe she should stay home and telecommute to her Washington, D.C. office. Or, even better, maybe Greene needs to find a different line of work because she’s sure as hell isn’t getting anything accomplished in Congress other than proving what a complete shithead she is.
Twitter had some suggestions for Congresswoman Greene, and it’s safe to say she won’t like them:
Marjorie Taylor Greene is a carbuncle on the Congress. The antidote: Voting her sorry ass out of office in 2022.
