WATCH CNN’s Jim Acosta Dismantle An NRA Board Member Who Mentions ‘Praying’ For Schoolchildren

CNN host Jim Acosta wasn’t buying the BS being peddled by a National Rifle Association (NRA) board member who tried to offer the worthless notion of thoughts and prayers for children who have been killed in mass shootings such as the one that took place Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Judge Phillip Journey of the 18th Judicial District Court in Kansas serves on the board of the NRA, which held its convention in Houston despite the horror that took place last Tuesday in the Lone Star State. He told Acosta that his court handles family law, and for children that feel terrified, “we all pray for you — lift you up in prayer, that we want to hope that you get through this without the consequences that we see so often in victims of domestic crime.”

That led Acosta to ask:

“Can they bring an AR-15 in your courtroom?”

Judge Journey admitted that guns aren’t allowed in his courtroom, adding that they aren’t allowed in schools, either, which led Acosta to retort:

“Well, people don’t seem to have much trouble if they want to unleash that kind of destruction to do just that. NRA supporters like yourself keep saying that the answer to all of this is good guys with guns. The 19 good guys with guns failed in Uvalde. The cops were there in the school. There was a resource officer that was apparently MIA and none of that helped.”

Journey suggested law enforcement might be to blame in Uvalde, to which Acosta noted:

“With these mass shootings, it keeps coming back to the AR-15 and similar models. Why do people need an AR-15 anyway?”

Journey was silent for a few seconds that seemed to last an eternity, finally responding:

“You know, it’s just a semiautomatic rifle. If you want to be prejudiced about the way it looks. I was aware of what happened in the ’94 semiautomatic firearms ban and there were rifles of similar function that just didn’t look as ugly. They weren’t black guns like a Ruger mini 14 and the Ruger mini 14 was appropriate and the other was not.”

Acosta countered:

“I do want to ask you about the assault weapons ban. How is it an 18-year-old can buy an AR-15 style rifle and have 16 rounds of ammo like we saw with him in Uvalde?”

The judge replied:

“Well, he did not have any prior convictions. He didn’t have any prior issues that would have kept him from purchasing one. It’s my understanding from the news that he purchased it through a firearms dealer, and passed the background check. He didn’t have any prior convictions.”

The host then asked:

“Right, but should an 18-year-old have an AR-15? What’s he going to do with it?”

The judge attempted to use a favorite line for those who think there should be no restrictions whatsoever on the right to own whatever gun a person wants:

“Should an 18-year-old have one in the Army?”

But Acosta was more than ready for that assertion, telling Journey:

“They have military training in the army. The 18-year-old in Uvalde did not. He turned 18 and he went out and bought an AR-15.”

Journey wandered off and began talking about mental health being the real issue, only to have Acosta note that there are mentally ill people all over the world, but only the United States has so many mass shootings, to which the judge weakly countered:

“There have been several other mass shootings all over the world.”

But Acosta shut the judge down cold:

“Not to the level that we have in the United States, come on.”

The NRA and the gun lobby have no answers, only excuses. Sensible gun reform is desperately needed in this country. How many more children have to die in hail of gunfire before something is done?

Kyle Rittenhouse Whines That Biden Won’t Return His Phone Calls: ‘Crickets – Nothing!’

Acquitted Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse was in full whine mode during an appearance on The Jenna Ellis Show podcast, saying he has repeatedly called the White House and asked to speak with President Joe Biden, but the president won’t return his calls.

According to Newsweek, Rittenhouse told Ellis:

“Crickets; nothing. He still hasn’t replied. So it just shows how much of a man he is to not sit down and talk.”

Ellis asked Rittenhouse what he wanted people to know about his story, to which he responded:

“I was attacked. I was 17 years old. I was attacked and had to defend myself. I’m not a racist. I’m not a white supremacist. I’m not a domestic terrorist. I’m not a murderer, and anybody who wants to sit down and have a conversation, I’m more than open.”

Shortly after he was acquitted by a jury in Wisconsin, Rittenhouse met with failed, one-term former President Donald Trump. The meeting, Rittenhouse noted, was “phenomenal,” and included some advice that the ex-president shared with him:

“He told me that he understands what it feels like to have a lot of people not like you, and then just stay truthful to yourself and be yourself. Who cares what other people think?”

Who cares what other people think? Donald Trump does. His entire life has been an effort of striving to be respected and admired, even though he’s been a failure at everything he’s ever attempted: Business, marriage, fatherhood, and being president.

Ted Cruz Got His A*s Handed To Him At A Senate Hearing – So He Stormed Out Like A Child

Though it’s been said millions of times before, it bears repeating: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is the biggest, most obnoxious douchebag in the U.S. Senate.

Cruz proved what a petulant shitbag he is once again recently during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence when he accused Democrats of wanting to “defund the police,” which is a lie that gets repeated by conservatives whenever anyone says there’s far too much death and destruction caused by the weapons of mass murder produced by arms companies in the United States:

“You just said a moment ago that no Democrat favors abolishing the police. If that were the case why did every single Democrat vote to confirm Vanita Gupta—a nominee for the number three position at the Department of Justice who said last year in writing, in written testimony before this Senate, advocated abolishing the police?”

Of course, what Cruz said contains not a shred of truth. Gupta has written that she favors using some of the funds currently spent on cops to programs that would focus on improving care for the mentally ill, addressing the underlying economic causes of violent crime, and looking for alternatives to merely hiring more police officers.

Despite having already misstated what Ms. Gupta stands for, Cruz continued to trash a woman who dares to have an opinion that differs from his:

“And [Gupta] was confirmed by one vote. Every single Democrat was the necessary vote to confirm a radical who advocated abolishing the police and just this week we’re taking up Kristin Clarke, another radical, who has last year in testimony before this Senate advocated abolishing the police. If you don’t support abolishing the police why do you keep voting for nominees who advocate abolishing the police?”

But Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT) called Cruz out for his nonsense, reminding him:

“As you well know Senator Cruz, that is a complete distortion of their positions. We’re not here to talk about those nominees. If you want to stay, we can do it at the end of the hearing. But right now we’re going to move on.”

Rather than stay and participate in rest of the hearing, Cruz stood up and walked out like a child taking his toy and running home to mommy. Seems the Texas senator isn’t just a lying asshat, he’s also unable to take criticism, which is a sure sign of insecurity.

Maybe it’s time to rename Sen. Cruz the Raving Infantile Liar. It’s a hell of a lot more accurate.

Donald Trump Gun Nuts Supreme Court

Trump’s Three Handpicked SCOTUS Justices Just Handed Gun Lovers A Giant Setback

Donald Trump loves to brag about the fact that he managed to appoint three associate justices to the Supreme Court during his failed presidency. It’s literally the only bright spot in his term in office.

But it appears that Trump’s single “accomplishment” will also turn out to be another miserable failure, based on a decision from the high court on Monday, USA Today reports:

“The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up three challenges to a federal ban on gun ownership for people convicted of nonviolent crimes, disappointing Second Amendment advocates who hoped a more conservative court would begin to chip away at the restriction.

“By not taking the appeals, the nation’s highest court let stand a series of lower court rulings that prohibited people convicted of driving under the influence, making false statements on tax returns and selling counterfeit cassette tapes from owning a gun.”

Particularly galling to gun fetishists will be the fact that Amy Coney Barrett didn’t agree to form a majority with four other conservatives, which many believed she would based on her prior rulings while an appellate court judge:

“Several of the court’s conservatives signaled in recent years that they were interested in revisiting the issue, and it’s not clear why they chose not to do so. Four conservative justices have expressed a desire to address outstanding Second Amendment questions – enough to take a case but one vote short of the five needed to corral a majority. Many expected Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, seated last fall, to provide that fifth vote.”

But she didn’t, and that means that Trump’s hot air about how he was going to cement a conservative majority on the court is nothing but rhetoric. If a right-wing judge like Barrett won’t agree to hear a case on who can own a gun, has the court actually swung to the right?

Gun control supporters hailed the the decision, with Adam Skaggs, chief counsel and policy director at the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, remarking:

“If nothing else is clear from today’s decision, the court signaled that it’s not making a 180-degree turn where it’s going to take every gun case and rule for the gun lobby in every case.”

Another gun case remains before the justices, but it’s unclear when exactly the court will decide whether or not to take it.

In the other case, a New York law is in question:

“Two New York state residents who sought a license to carry guns outside their home but were denied because they didn’t meet the state’s requirement of having a ‘special need for self protection.'”

Will Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett agree to hear that case? Based on their decision today, it seems unlikely.

‘Rambo’ Graham Humiliated For Claiming He Owns An AR-15 To Battle ‘Gangs’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) tried to make himself sound like some sort of a tough guy during an appearance on Fox News, but all he accomplished was humiliating himself when social media began relentlessly mocking Senator “Rambo” for his bragging.

Speaking with Fox host Chris Wallace, Graham brazenly declared:

“I own an AR-15. If there’s a natural disaster in South Carolina where the cops can’t protect my neighborhood, my house will be the last one that the gang will come to, because I can defend myself.”

Actually, Lindsey, your house will the last one because you creep everyone out and no one wants to see you in your boxer shorts or whatever it is you wear around the house.

Graham was immediately pelted with hilarious mocking online:

Poor Lindsey! He wants us to think he’s a macho man, but we all know better. Then again, so does he.
