Lindsey Graham Tries To Explain His ‘Riots In The Streets’ Comment And Makes Matters Worse

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has faced withering criticism since he made a comment last Sunday that if former president Donald Trump was indicted for mishandling classified documents, there would be “riots in the streets,” telling Fox News:

“I’ll say this, if there is a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information after the Clinton debacle … there will be riots in the street.”

Today, Graham — who is on vacation in Italy — spoke with Steve Sedgwick of CNBC and attempted to explain his controversial remarks less than a week ago:

“What I tried to do was state the obvious.

“Here’s what I said, The raid on [former] President Trump’s home, the likely nominee for 2024, better bear some fruit here. If it’s just about mishandling classified information, we’ve had a standard set when it came to Hillary Clinton.”

The South Carolina Republican added:

“Our country, the people on our side, believe that when it comes to the justice system, there are no rules regarding Trump, [it’s a case of] ‘get him, it doesn’t matter how you get him,’ so I said that if it’s similar to what happened to Clinton and he gets prosecuted, it’ll be one of the most disruptive events in America.”

In other words, Graham is now offering a rationale for the threats he made. And he’s also providing cover for any nutjob who might think the judicial system is somehow tilted against Republicans, especially the failed ex-president, who has been under one form of investigation after another his entire life because he engages in questionable (and potentially illegal) behavior such as refusing to rent apartments to black people, stealing from a charity bearing his name, and allegedly cheating on his company’s taxes.

Here’s what Graham should have been asked: Do you ever get tired of having your nose buried in Trump’s fat posterior?

Jealous Greene Pitches A Hissy Fit When AOC Gets ‘GQ’ Cover: ‘She’s Not Very Smart’

If perhaps you were wondering if someone who is filled with as much bluster as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is all talk and actually an insecure little slug, an attack Greene launched on her Democratic colleague, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) — who is also known by the initials AOC — proves that the would-be GOP bully is indeed nothing more than a “mean girl” who has to belittle others so she can feel superior to them.

AOC is on the cover of the latest issue of GQ magazine, and she gave the magazine an in-depth interview on all matter of policy subjects, which is something Greene would never be able to pull off. Greene’s idea of policy positions is saying she’s opposed to solar energy because she wants to be able to have electricity in her house after the sun goes down.

So, in response to AOC getting attention and Greene getting none, Marjorie went on right-wing media and claimed that the New York Democrat “is not very smart” or “popular.”

Oh, and while she was at it, Greene also made fun of AOC for once being a bartender, as if that’s not a noble profession.

Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Greene is dumb a stump and almost no one in Congress can stand her. And she hasn’t accomplished anything professionally that wasn’t handed to her by her family.

Twitter was only too happy to level Marge’s karma.

Kevin McCarthy Gets Dragged On Twitter For His Bizarre ‘Electric Cord Of Liberty’ Remark

Everywhere you turned today, Republicans were lining up to loudly whine about remarks made by President Joe Biden about “MAGA Republicans” who put their loyalty to one man over doing what’s best for the country.

But it was something House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said prior to the president’s speech that left many scratching their heads. Here’s the part of his speech that was so confusing:

“The American experiment and the good people who believe in it have not said their last word. The electric cord of liberty still sparks in our hearts. The spirit of the Pilgrims, the Patriots and the Pioneers still inspire our souls. Our best days are ahead of us, not behind us. Our nation can flourish again and under a new historic Republican majority.”

Umm…what? Electric cord of liberty? Does that connect to the pedestal fan of freedom or is it only to be used for the hair dryer of justice? So many questions!

It would appear, according to HuffPost, that McCarthy was trying to reference Abraham Lincoln:

The electric cord reference seemingly harks back to an 1858 Abraham Lincoln speech in which Lincoln said the Declaration of Independence “links the hearts of patriotic and liberty-loving men together” like an electric cord through the generations.

Sure, we all learned that in history class, right? If McCarthy wanted to pay tribute to Honest Abe, he should have said that’s where he got his electric cord reference.

Instead, we’re left to wonder what the purpose of the line was, which certainly set off lots of debate on Twitter. Take a look:

Marjorie Taylor Greene In Hot Water For Sharing Fake Video Of Joe Biden As Hitler And Claiming ‘It’s Real’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is in very hot water with Jewish groups for sharing a fake video of President Joe Biden as Adolf Hitler on Twitter and claiming “it’s real.”

Mediate reports on the video:

The video shows an actor resembling the president except with a Hitler-esque patch of facial hair below his nose, standing in front of a photoshopped background from Biden’s speech with swastikas added. The audio seems to be a clip from one of Hitler’s speeches, although that has not been verified.

Greene used the video to criticize Biden for a speech he gave in Philadelphia on Thursday evening in which he criticized failed, one-term former president Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans,” calling them “an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

Those remarks led Greene to post two tweets:

Greene’s tweets drew the immediate ire of Jewish groups, with Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League remarking:

“That a member of Congress would consider this funny, let alone acceptable, is disgraceful. With one post and a doctored video, [Greene] managed to trivialize Hitler and the Nazis’ sheer evil and belittle the serious threat that extremism poses to this country. Absolutely shameful.”

The American Jewish Committee demanded that House Republican leaders condemn Greene:

“(Greene) continues to trivialize the terror of the Nazis and use Holocaust imagery for political gain. This doctored video is vile, offensive, and completely unbecoming for a member of Congress. House Republican leaders must condemn her conduct.”

So far, however, no one in Republican leadership has stepped forward to criticize Greene or even address the matter of her tweets. It’s safe to say none of them will.

Kayleigh McEnany’s Attack On President Biden Backfires On Her And Trump

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany probably thought she had the perfect way to attack President Joe Biden for his criticism of MAGA Republicans who are a threat to democracy in the United States, but her plan backfired badly and wound up reinforcing what Biden had said.

The president gave a speech addressing the attack on the American republic by those allied with ex-president Donald Trump who deny the results of elections, foment violence against anyone who disagrees with them, and defend even the most vile actions of their GOP colleagues.

Biden spoke from Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, warning:

“Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

The president added:

“MAGA Republicans have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies.”

That led McEnany to try and spin the current administration as the extremist element in the country, tweeting out:

Biden announces the official position of the White House: “Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundation of our republic.”

As HuffPost notes, there’s a lot of evidence to support what Biden said:

Last year, for the first time, the U.S. was listed as a “backsliding democracy” in a report by a European think tank as a result of developments during Trump’s administration. The report said Trump’s lies about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election were a turning point that undermined trust in the nation’s electoral process and ultimately led to the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

Since then, Trump and his allies have continued to undermine the voting process and elevate election-denying candidates, leading Biden and other Democrats to cast the 2022 midterm elections as a referendum on democracy itself.

It didn’t take long before McEnany got her comeuppance, with most respondents noting that what the president said was spot-on.
