Take, for example, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who loves to try and troll people he disagrees with, but almost always fails and winds up with egg on his face.
Such was the case Thursday when Cruz spoke at CPAC in Orlando, Florida, Mediaite reports:
After referencing (White House Press Secretary Jen) Psaki, Cruz actually called out the audience out for not booing the mere mention of her.
The audience obliged.
“Boooo!”
“You know, Peppermint Patty deserves some love,” Cruz said, comparing Psaki to the character from Peanuts.
When a reporter referenced Cruz’s comments at the daily White House press briefing, Psaki had the perfect retort:
Cruz also got a thorough roasting on Twitter:
Of course, Ted will never be able to live down his nickname, Cancun Cruz, so his only option is to try and divert attention from himself to someone else. Problem is, he looks like an asshole either way.
Some Congressional Republicans are upset that President Joe Biden has pledged to nominate a black woman to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer on the nation’s highest court, so White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki decided she’d shut down the GOP hypocrites by using their own words against them.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had this to say about Biden’s promise of a black female justice, according toThe Washington Post:
Asked by NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker if the president was playing identity politics as some Republicans have suggested, Psaki began by noting that former President Donald Trump had made it clear he would nominate a woman to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
And then Psaki focused in on Cruz, bringing the receipts as she pointed to his own comments about Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination:
The press secretary then added that Ronald Reagan appointed Sandra Day O’Connor after having repeatedly said he would be choosing a woman for the court, yet no conservatives whined when that was done, either.
Here’s the simple fact that Republicans like Ted Cruz simply don’t want to admit: They’re just fine with white women nominees, but the minute that woman’s skin color is black, they begin having hysterical hissy fits usually reserved for spoiled children who don’t get their way.
It’s about race. And Ted Cruz is among the biggest racists and hypocrites to be found anywhere on this planet.
If you’ve followed the bizarre and often offensive rantings from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), you may recall that she once blamed the wildfires in California on “lasers.”
Back in January of last year, Media Matters reported on Greene’s claim regarding lasers, which she posted on Facebook:
Rep. Greene is a proponent of the Camp Fire laser beam conspiracy theory. She wrote a November 17, 2018, Facebook post — which is no longer available online — in which she said that she was speculating “because there are too many coincidences to ignore” regarding the fire, including that then-California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) wanted to build the high-speed rail project and “oddly there are all these people who have said they saw what looked like lasers or blue beams of light causing the fires.” She also speculated that a vice chairman at “Rothschild Inc, international investment banking firm” was somehow involved, and suggested the fire was caused by a beam from “space solar generators.”
Now, however, Marj wants us to believe that reporting on what she posted has hurt her feelings, so she went and whined to fellow right-wing asshat Mike Huckabee, telling him:
Hurt her feelings? Really? Don’t you have to be a living, sentient being to have those?
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is whining because the House GOP leadership won’t do whatever she tells them to, failing to realize that as a freshman member of Congress who doesn’t serve on any committees (thanks to her own big mouth and offensive, anti-Semitic statements), she has zero credibility.
Appearing on Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) podcast this week, Greene lamented her plight:
That led MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart to expertly mock Greene on his show Sunday, remarking:
Capehart then turned to former GOP political consultant Stuart Stevens and ex-Republican National, Committee head Michael Steele, asking Stevens:
Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House? Can you imagine the danger that would be to this country? He’s a man who allegedly allowed male college students on the wrestling team he was a coach for to be routinely molested by the team doctor without ever reporting the abuse those wrestlers say he witnessed. Putting such a person third in the line of secession to the White House would be a massive national security risk.
If Marjorie Taylor Greene is so damn unhappy in Congress, here’s a free bit of advice for her: Don’t run for reelection next year. No one but the knuckle-dragging troglodytes on the far right of the Republican Party will miss you in the least.
While Democratic challengers have been trying (and failing) for years to defeat Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), redistricting could well send Nunes into early retirement as soon as the 2022 midterm elections.
The Fresno Beereports that the California redistricting commission has just unveiled a map which would put Nunes in a new district which went heavily for President Joe Biden in 2020:
An editor for The Cook Political Report, which tracks elections, wrote on Twitter that Nunes’ district would turn from having voted for former President Donald Trump in 2020 by five percentage points to one that backed President Joe Biden by nine.
While the maps could be changed as a result of constituent feedback, the redistricting commission has the final say in the matter.
There are few members of Congress from the Golden State who are more despised than Nunes, a loyal supporter of Trump who even went on what later became known as “Devin’s midnight run,” a late night meeting at the White House in 2017 where he was given access to a confidential source and shared classified intelligence with Trump.
In other words, Nunes broke with protocol in an attempt to curry favor with Trump and short-circuit the investigation of possible ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian officials, meaning he directly helped benefit the Russians as they sought to hide their connections to Trump.
Under the proposed redistricting plan, the city of Fresno would be split three ways, with Nunes getting a slice of the city but seeing his new district turn considerably bluer than it is now, which could be the end of his political career.
About the only option Nunes would have is to run in a more Republican district, though those are few and far between in California as Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report noted:
Nunes has represented the 22nd congressional district since 2013.
As of today, Nunes is already facing four Democratic challengers in next year’s election, and if redistricting makes the 22nd even more Democratic, Nunes appears headed for an almost certain loss.
