Earlier today, every member of the House Oversight Committee was allowed to view an FBI document that Republicans have been saying for weeks now would definitively prove President Joe Biden had accepted a $5 million bribe while serving as vice president in the Obama administration.
However, listening to those committee members after they reviewed the document, a line from T.S. Eliot’s “The Hollow Men” came to mind:
There had been plenty of banging, tweeting, press conferences, and promises, but Thursday brought it all to an end with a whimper because Republicans have bupkis in the way of actual evidence, as one of the biggest mouths in Congress was forced to admit to the press after she saw the document.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had this to say afterwards to reporters:
Ron Filipkowski, a former federal prosecutor, summed up Marge’s ramblings:
“So basically an informant who is paid to gather info claims someone in Ukraine said he paid a bribe to the Bidens years ago but they have no proof of any money going to Joe.”
Someone said something that cannot be verified. How’s that for damning evidence?
But perhaps Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who is also on the oversight committee, had the best take on the latest GOP scam:
Yes, the allegation was one that Rudy Giuliani allegedly dug up while looking for dirt on the Biden family during the 2020 election.
Margie was eviscerated on Twitter.
