Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene probably thought her name for the different factions of the House GOP caucus was catchy and cute, but it wound up backfiring badly on her and making her look even dumber.
During an appearance on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, Greene remarked:
“The five families, you know the reference, the five families are parts of our conference, all the different parts. We are coming together and having discussions on how we are going to govern in the majority. And it’s literally my favorite meeting of the week.”
Anyone who as seen the classic 1972 Francis Ford Coppola film “The Godfather” understands “the reference” Greene was alluding to, but as Bannon quickly reminded her, things didn’t go too well for the five families in the movie.
It should also be noted that Greene is clearly comparing members of her party to the mafia, which is a bit more on-point than she probably intended.
Greene is supporting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to be the next Speaker of the House, but he reportedly doesn’t have the 218 votes necessary to ascend to that post.
The Georgia Republican’s mafia talk sparked some interesting comments on social media.
