Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) sounded worried (and guilty) on Tuesday morning as the January 6 Congressional committee began meeting, screeching during an appearance on Real America’s Voice with host Steve Bannon, suggesting that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants to put members of Congress in jail.
And then the Georgia Republican went full paranoiac and claimed she knows that Pelosi wants to destroy her:
Sounds like Greene is worried, and considering that she may have played a role in the Capitol insurrection, she damn well should be.
While she was at it, Greene engaged in some revealing psychological projection, remarking:
As if that’s not bad enough, Greene also told Bannon that she’s putting together her own Jan. 6 “committee” that will include her and Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL). Just imagine what a clusterfuck that’ll be!
Here’s Greene wailing and whining like a spoiled child:
The House select committee investigating what transpired at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 is holding its first public hearing today, and it’s expected most of the testimony will come from police officers serving in the departments that were called to protect the Capitol on that fateful afternoon.
But in the days and weeks yet to come, there will be many more hearings — some public and some held behind closed doors for security reasons — that will widen the scope of inquiry for the committee and hopefully provide us all with more information about what happened that day and how we can prevent such a horrific event from taking place again.
Just Security had two former U.S. Attorneys (Barbara McQuade and Joyce Vance) sit down with Ryan Goodman, who serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Just Security, and come up with questions that need to be asked by the committee.
At one point in their extensive document, we learn that on the day of the Capitol insurrection, former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, was given Secret Service protection, which is highly unusual. That led to these questions:
“Are you aware that Rudy Giuliani received Secret Service Protection on Jan. 6? Were you aware of communications as to whether he should receive Secret Service Protection? What senior U.S. officials were involved in that decision? Were you aware of anyone raising concerns about whether it was appropriate to provide Secret Service protection to someone so far outside the ambit of normal protectees?”
We have this information thanks to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by public advocacy group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW):
Giuliani played a key role in the buildup to the Capitol riots, giving a speech with then-President Donald Trump’s blessings in which he urged the crowd:
Giuliani will likely be called (or subpoenaed) by the select committee, and considering the fact that he received Secret Service protection on the very same day he basically called for the violent overthrow of the government, he damn well should be.
But why was that protection afforded to him, and who ordered it? Only a few high-ranking White House officials could have made such a request of the Secret Service.
The fact that Giuliani was given such enhanced security suggests that the person or persons who thought that necessary knew in advance that actions were planned which would put him at risk, and that points to a larger conspiracy that may well reach all the way to the Oval Office.
The House select committee has its hands full. But as McQuade and Vance rightly suggest, they shouldn’t be satisfied until they get the answers the American people deserve.
Now that indictments against the Trump Organization have already been unsealed and Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg has been charged with numerous crimes, the question remains: Who will be the first in Donald Trump’s inner circle to flip on the failed, one-term former president and cooperate with prosecutors?
Weisselberg would seem to be the most likely candidate, but he’s said to be slavishly loyal to his boss, whom he has worked for almost half a century.
Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka? Possibly, but they’re bound to their father by blood, and as the old saying goes, blood is thicker than water. Also, they depend on daddy for a living, because none of them have ever held a real job.
That leaves Jared Kushner, Trump’s former “secretary of everything,” who is reportedly in legal jeopardy, too, and also facing financial problems with his own real estate holdings. Would Jared become a cooperating witness for the prosecution?
Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen hinted recently that the reason none of the legal filings have had Jared’s name attached to them is because he’s already in the fold with the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.:
Jared isn’t a Trump, and he must know that a long prison sentence would not exactly be a good thing for him. Fragile, doll-like men don’t tend to fare well behind bars.
Others agreed with Cohen:
Imagine the look on Ivanka’s face when she discovers her husband has just sold daddy down the river. Then again, Jared and Ivanka may bump into each other as they make a mad dash to Cy Vance’s office.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) got dealt a gigantic dose of karma when he showed up at a California beach and agreed to pose with a man who called him a pedophile.
Gaetz is in the Golden State with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for one of their pathetic “America First” rallies, and that’s where the good people at MeidasTouch.com had apparently arranged for a seemingly friendly supporter to approach Gaetz and tell him:
A man who appears to be some sort of security guard then enters the frame and breaks up the fun. Take a look:
Gaetz is indeed suspected of being fond of underage girls and is currently under investigation for sexually trafficking a child across state lines, which is a federal crime. One of his alleged co-conspirators is already cooperating with prosecutors and telling everything he knows about Gaetz’s after hours activities.
If Congressman Gaetz thinks things are bad now, just wait until he’s standing before a federal judge trying to explain why he enjoys hanging out around high schools so he can scope out victims.
Earlier today, we learned that the Trump Organization “will be criminally charged” by this time next week, according to reports from the New York Times and NBC News.
“The Trump Organization is expected to be hit with criminal charges as soon as next week by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance’s office in a case that Trump attorneys say is tied to tax-related conduct, multiple people familiar with the matter tell NBC News.
“’It looks like they are going to come down with charges against the company, and that is completely outrageous,” Ron Fischetti, an attorney for the Trumps, said after the development was first reported by The New York Times.
“‘I’ve been practicing for over 50 years, and I’ve never seen a case like this.'”
If indeed the former president’s corporation — which is privately owned and controlled by him and his three eldest children, Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka — winds up being charged with crimes such as bank and insurance, and tax fraud, it could prove disastrous for the Trumps and the company itself, which is reportedly on the edge of financial collapse.
Shortly after the news broke about the pending indictments, several experts weighed in on the matter.
Trump biographer Tim O’Brien said news that the Trump Organization will be charged is significant:
David Corn, the DC bureau chief of Mother Jones, noted the irony of Trump being destroyed for failing to pay his taxes is indeed rich considering the blood on his hands:
And NBC legal analyst Ari Melber predicted that criminal charges will bankrupt Trump and destroy his company:
No matter how you slice it, it certainly looks like karma is coming for Donald Trump, his family, and his allegedly corrupt corporation. It’s about damn time.
