Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has never been a fan of the truth, and she proved that again during a House hearing Tuesday when one of her Democratic colleagues used a word that set her off.
The hearing was on transgender athletes, and a witness from the right-wing think tank Heritage Foundation was testifying when Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) remarked:
Greene immediately objected.
“That’s not a point of order,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told the chairman of the committee, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI). “Let the gentlelady proceed.”
After conferring with aides, McClain ruled against Greene.
Crockett later mocked Greene on Twitter.
As others reminded Greene on social media, the word “deplorable” is the perfect way to describe her.
Though she constantly calls for draconian cuts to the social safety net that protects millions of Americans, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) gladly accepted a business loan provided by the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) during the worst days of the COVID pandemic that crippled millions of small companies.
But don’t dare remind Greene that she took that government assistance. If you do, she’ll go on a Twitter rant and suggest you’re a bad person for using facts.
In this case, the mention of Greene’s PPP loan came from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), which absolutely enraged the Georgia Republican, who began railing against Waters on social media.
Maxine Waters is attacking me for taking a PPP loan (like so many had to), before I was a member of congress, when the tyrannical government shut us all down.
Maxine is 85 yrs old and has held government office since 1976!!!
She has no idea what it’s like to meet payroll and keep a business running. Maxine is everything wrong with politicians today.
Too old.
No real life experience.
Corrupt and tyrannical.
Is she going to cling to power until she dies like so many of her peers?
Wow! As we say the South, A hit dog always hollers. In other words, Greene knows she’s a damn hypocrite but cannot stand anyone pointing out her blatant hypocrisy.
While Waters hasn’t yet replied to Greene’s internet screed, others on Twitter were only too happy to give Margie a dose of karma.
Greene proudly announced the publication of the book on her favorite social media website, Twitter, which for some unknown reason the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, seems determined to rebrand as “X,” even though the homepage for the site still comes up as Twitter.com in the address bar.
The Georgia Republican, according to HuffPost, has tried to suggest that MTG will present her side of the many controversies which have surrounded her since she arrived in Congress.
The firebrand Republican has promised to tell her “side of the story” with the book. But the Guardian revealed it contains a false claim from Greene that no Democrats remained in the House chamber to defend it from supporters of then-President Donald Trump during the U.S. Capitol riot of 2021.
Here’s Margie’s Twitter announcement of the book:
The publisher of the book is Winning Team Publishing, which just so happens to have been co-founded by Donald Trump Jr., the oldest son of failed one-term, twice-impeached and multiply-indicted former president Donald Trump.
Also, in a particularly ironic note considering how Greene loves to claim she’s “America First” like the ex-president, the book itself was printed in Canada, which the congresswoman has suggested has become a socialist nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. If that’s the case, then why print a book there? Were there no American printers available?
Greene’s book promo drew harsh remarks on social media, with some suggesting an alternative use for the pages.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) got her headed handed to her by a Democratic colleague when she snarkily suggested that the Democrat was too old to understand the way legislation is advanced in Congress.
During debate on a funding bill to keep the government from shutting down at the end of the week, Greene rose and remarked:
GOP showboats like Greene don’t know the first thing about legislating. All they want to do is obstruct and lead insurrections. And Margie is among the very worst of them.
While Greene was correct the House had passed the funding legislation, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) promptly gave her a lesson in how a bill becomes a law.
“It may be that the gentlelady doesn’t know that there is another body attached to the U.S. Congress called the United States Senate,” DeLauro said. “And they have to vote on the continuing resolution.”
“That may be a basic lesson in civics. There is the House. There is the Senate. And there is the president.”
GOP showboats like Greene don’t know the first thing about legislating. All they want to do is obstruct and lead insurrections. And Margie is among the very worst of them.
On Thursday, shortly after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for attending a pro-Palestinian demonstration after the Hamas terror attacks on Israel, Vermont Democratic Congresswoman Becca Balint decided to give Greene a taste of her own medicine.
In a searing 11-minute speech on the House floor, Balint laid out why she was calling for Greene to be censured, saying the controversial Georgian had “repeatedly fanned the flames of racism, antisemitism, LGBTQ hate speech, Islamophobia, anti-Asian hate, xenophobia, and other forms of hatred.”
Whereas Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has repeatedly fanned the flames of racism, antisemitism, LGBTQ hate speech, Islamophobia, anti-Asian hate, xenophobia, and other forms of hatred;
Whereas Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has repeatedly debased the memories of thousands of victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, by perpetuating conspiracy theories to shift blame and responsibility for the mass murder;
Whereas Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has repeatedly assaulted the foundation of our democracy by perpetuating conspiracy theories related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol which sought to halt the peaceful transfer of power;
Whereas Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has repeatedly called for violence against elected representatives and their families;
Whereas Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has repeatedly espoused antisemitic rhetoric and conspiracy theories, including through inflammatory evocations of the Holocaust;
Whereas, on May 20, 2021, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said that the mask mandate in the House of Representatives was akin to Jews being ‘‘put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany’’;
Whereas, on May 25, 2021, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted that, ‘‘Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star’’;
Whereas, on February 26, 2022, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared at a white nationalist event that was condemned by the Republican Jewish Coalition as ‘‘appalling and outrageous that a Member of Congress would share a platform with an individual who has actively spread antisemitic bile, mocked the Holocaust and promoted dangerous anti-Israel conspiracy theories’’;
[…]
Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That–
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene be censured;
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene forthwith present herself in the well of the House of Representatives for the pronouncement of censure;
and
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene be censured with the public reading of this resolution by the Speaker.
And here’s the video:
If anyone is deserving of being censured and even removed from Congress, it’s Marjorie Taylor Greene. She has repeatedly engaged in seditious behavior, lied, plotted to overturn the 2020 election, and even begged Donald Trump for a pardon. Only guilty people need pardons. And Margie is as guilty as they come.
