Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Ignores National Tribute To Jimmy Carter – Orders Flags In State Return To ‘Full-Staff’

Having already dishonored the memory of former President Jimmy Carter by sending condolences to his late widow, Rosalynn, Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott decided he’d go for the diss twofer and order that flags in the Lone Star State be raised to full-staff by next Monday, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

President Joe Biden issued a presidential decree on Dec. 29 for a monthlong tribute to Carter. It called for U.S. flags displayed on “all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions” to be flown at half-staff “for a period of 30 days from the day of his death.”

Based on the decree, flags are to be flown at half-staff until January 29, nine days after Trump is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, which didn’t sit well with Trump, who whined on social media, writing, “The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration. They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves.”

Despite the Biden decree, Abbott issued a press release today stating, “Texas continues to mourn with our fellow Americans across the country over the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. President Carter’s steadfast leadership left a lasting legacy that will be felt for generations to come, which together as a nation we honor by displaying flags at half-staff for 30 days. On January 20, our great nation will celebrate our democratic tradition of transferring power to a new President by inaugurating the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. As we unite our country and usher in this new era of leadership, I ordered all flags to be raised to full-staff at the Texas Capitol and all state buildings for the inauguration of President Trump. While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America.”

In other words, screw the dead guy. Instead, Texas is going to honor the rapist asshat who has made it clear he has every intention of trying to destroy the United States with his moronic policies.

To hell with Texas. To hell with Greg Abbott. And to hell with Donald Trump.

Trump FURIOUS Flags Are Still At Half-Staff To Honor Jimmy Carter: ‘Nobody Wants To See This!’

Donald Trump is absolutely livid that former President Jimmy Carter dared to die so close to Donnie’s upcoming inauguration on Jan. 20, and now he’s dishonoring Carter as the nation pays tribute to him.

Trump vented his childish rage on social media, writing:

“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration. They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!”

“In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” he continued. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Some in the MAGA community have even suggested that Carter deliberately died when he did to interfere with Trump’s inauguration and that the incoming president should demand that flags be raised before Jan. 20.

However, there’s one problem with that plan: Until Trump takes the oath of office, he cannot issue any official orders that federal officials will obey. Only President Biden has that power.

Also, the official U.S. code for how long to lower the flag for the death of an ex-president is unambiguous:

“The President or a former President: for thirty days from the day of death. The flag shall also be flown at half-staff for such period at all United States embassies, legations, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”

Trump’s childish online meltdown over flag protocol drew plenty of social media criticism.

Social Media Erupts With Outrage After Trump Says He Plans To Crash Jimmy Carter’s Funeral

Even though he isn’t invited and has long said horrible things about former President Jimmy Carter, Donald Trump says he plans to attend (i.e. crash) the funeral.

Asked about the upcoming funeral, Trump told reporters, “I’ll be there. We were invited.”

However, Trump refused to say what member of the Carter family had invited him. In other words, he was lying. That’s to be expected, of course, because Trump is a pathological liar who lies even when the truth would better serve him.

Keep in mind this is the same Donald Trump who has called Carter the country’s “worst president” and had this to say back in January of last year:

“Crooked Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of our country. He’s the most incompetent and he’s the most corrupt president in the history of our country. And it’s not even close. In fact, I said, today, the happiest person alive today is Jimmy Carter because his presidency looks brilliant. Brilliant by comparison.”

Trump’s plan to attend Carter’s funeral wasn’t well-received on social media, with many slamming Donald for planning to make the event all about him.

Barack Obama’s Tribute To Jimmy Carter Is What Every American Needs To Hear Right Now

Hours after the late president Jimmy Carter’s death was announced by his family, former President Barack Obama released a statement that may well go down in history as one of the most beautiful and touching remembrances ever to ever come from an American head of state.

Obama’s statement begins, “For decades, you could walk into Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia on some Sunday mornings and see hundreds of tourists from around the world crammed into the pews. And standing in front of them, asking with a wink if there were any visitors that morning, would be President Jimmy Carter — preparing to teach Sunday school, just like he had done for most of his adult life.”

A listing of Carter’s greatest achievements as president were also included in President Obama’s tribute.

“Some who came to hear him speak were undoubtedly there because of what President Carter accomplished in his four years in the White House — the Camp David Accords he brokered that reshaped the Middle East; the work he did to diversify the federal judiciary, including nominating a pioneering women’s rights activist and lawyer named Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the federal bench; the environmental reforms he put in place, becoming one of the first leaders in the world to recognize the problem of climate change.”

But it was what Obama wrote next that is certain to touch the hearts of millions of Americans, because it speaks to the decency and sense of service President Carter exhibited each and every day of his life.

“Others were likely there because of what President Carter accomplished in the longest, and most impactful, post-presidency in American history — monitoring more than 100 elections around the world; helping virtually eliminate Guinea worm disease, an infection that had haunted Africa for centuries; becoming the only former president to earn a Nobel Peace Prize; and building or repairing thousands of homes in more than a dozen countries with his beloved Rosalynn as part of Habitat for Humanity.”
“But I’m willing to bet that many people in that church on Sunday morning were there, at least in part, because of something more fundamental: President Carter’s decency.”

There was also this remembrance of the man himself.

“Elected in the shadow of Watergate, Jimmy Carter promised voters that he would always tell the truth. And he did — advocating for the public good, consequences be damned. He believed some things were more important than reelection — things like integrity, respect, and compassion. Because Jimmy Carter believed, as deeply as he believed anything, that we are all created in God’s image.”

“Whenever I had a chance to spend time with President Carter, it was clear that he didn’t just profess these values. He embodied them. And in doing so, he taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service. In his Nobel acceptance speech, President Carter said, ‘God gives us the capacity for choice. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace.’ He made that choice again and again over the course of his 100 years, and the world is better for it.”

Rest in peace, President Carter. The world is a better place because of you.

Jimmy Carter Says He Only Has One Goal Left In Life As He Nears 100: To Vote For Kamala Harris

Former president Jimmy Carter will turn 100 on October 1, and he says he only has one goal left in life: To cast his ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris and see her become the 47th President of the United States.

According to his son, Chip, his father made his wishes known in a recent conversation the two had.

“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris.”

President Carter entered hospice care in February of 2023, but has been very interested in national and world events in recent weeks, according to his family.

Jason Carter, the former president’s grandson, noted his grandfather has been, “more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza” during discussions he’s had with him.

Though he served only one term as president from 1976 to 1980, Carter has continued to work on issues that confront the United States and the world since leaving office, helping negotiate peace deals, eradicate diseases in Third World countries, and overseeing foreign elections. His efforts won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, with the Nobel committee noting:

The Nobel Peace Prize 2002 was awarded to Jimmy Carter “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development”
