Just a few hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to a joint session of Congress, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) went on Facebook Live and demanded that Ukraine surrender to their Russian invaders.
Greene began by claiming that President Joe Biden shouldn’t have sent in military aid to Ukraine that he announced on Wednesday:
“If we truly care about suffering and death on our television screens, we cannot fund more of it by sending money and weaponry to fight a war they cannot possibly win! The only effect of more arms and more money from America will be to prolong the war!”
The Georgia Republican added that the United States was giving the Ukrainian people “false hope about a war they can’t win.”
Greene concluded her remarks by saying that she wants to halt all arms shipments to Ukraine because “as a Christian” she doesn’t want to “produce any more human suffering.”
Greene’s video posting drew a response from fellow Republican Liz Cheney (WY):
It’s hard to tell if Greene is really this stupid or on the Kremlin payroll. Of course, it’s certainly possible that both are true.
David Shafer, who serves as Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party is in very hot water with others members of the GOP for tweets he sent out that have been deemed “Russian propaganda.”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitutionreports that Shafer quoted a tweet from the Kremlin which was critical of a UN resolution that had been introduced by Russia:
Shafer’s tweet Sunday questioned why the U.S. and Ukraine voted against the resolution, which was critical of Nazism. He mused that Biden and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky “fell into a somewhat obvious trap” by opposing it.
If Shafer had bothered to do 30 seconds of research on the internet, he would have discovered that the Trump administration also voted against the Russian UN resolution:
The U.S. has voted against the Russia-backed U.N. resolution each time it has come up since 2005 – including during former President Donald Trump’s administration in 2019 and 2020.
U.S. officials say the resolutions are “thinly veiled attempts to legitimize Russian disinformation campaigns denigrating neighboring nations.”
GOP committee member Jason Shepherd said he is calling for a formal censure of Shafer as a result of the tweets:
“He is supposed to speak for all Republicans. Obviously he is speaking for a very fringe part of the Republican party that supports Vladimir Putin. Both Republican and Democratic administrations have voted against this resolution. He should have apologized and deleted the tweet. As of now he still hasn’t done that.”
State Senate Majority Leader Republican Mike Dugan echoed Shepherd’s remarks:
Shafer was also pilloried on social media for being so eager to push Russian propaganda merely to make political points:
Shafer should resign in disgrace. But as we’ve learned on countless occasions, Republicans have absolutely no shame, even when they take the side of murdering thugs who bomb children and want to destroy the United States.
Not content to have allegedly been a part of the January 6 Capitol insurrection, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is now suggesting that it may be time to use guns on her Democratic opponents.
Greene was speaking to disgraced former Trump administration aide Sebastian Gorka as part of his pathetic excuse of a radio show which appears on the right-wing Salem Network when she brought up the subject of Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who Greene claims is wrong on the issues of gun rights and the COVID vaccine:
She hates to use this language? No she doesn’t! She’s happy to use threats and fear to rile up her extremist base of supporters who are still convinced that Donald Trump won the 2020 election and is second only to Jesus in their bigoted brains.
Of course, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Greene would be spouting such dangerous rhetoric. After all, she’s been doing it since she first announced her candidacy.
According to CNN, Greene has a history of calling for violence against anyone who disagrees with her:
In one post, from January 2019, Greene liked a comment that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In other posts, Greene liked comments about executing FBI agents who, in her eyes, were part of the “deep state” working against Trump.
Oh, and then there was this, also aimed at Pelosi:
“She’s a traitor to our country, she’s guilty of treason,” Greene says in the video, which she posted on Facebook at the time. “She took an oath to protect American citizens and uphold our laws. And she gives aid and comfort to our enemies who illegally invade our land. That’s what treason is. And by our law representatives and senators can be kicked out and no longer serve in our government. And it’s, uh, it’s a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.”
Maybe the voters in Greene’s district will do us all a favor and un-elect her in November. In the meantime, she needs to be under investigation by the Justice Department for a number of crimes, including issuing terroristic threats and giving aid and comfort to traitors who tried to overthrow the U.S. government.
