As Gas Prices Fall, Fox News Is Suddenly Worried It May Harm ‘Mom-And-Pop Gas Stations’

For months now, Fox News has bemoaned the high price of gasoline and the economic impact on Americans, which they maintain is the fault of President Joe Biden, despite the fact that no president has the ability to control the price of fuel or any other commodity.

Gas prices are now falling across the country, and the price per gallon has dropped over the past month from highs of $5+ a gallon to below $4 in some states.

Is Fox celebrating the decrease in gas prices? Of course not! Now they’re whining that the downturn in pump prices could be bad news for “mom-and-pop gas stations.”

Justin Baragona of The Daily Beast notes that “America Reports” co-hosts Sandra Smith and John Roberts were discussing the downturn in gas prices Monday:

Co-anchor John Roberts finally broke the news to Fox News viewers that the price of gas was “creeping back down” near his home. His colleague Sandra Smith, however, suggested that this may not be entirely a good thing.

“It is. It is,” she noted. “And the point was made over the weekend, I believe it was the Wall Street Journal, that gas prices are actually coming back down historically faster with the price of oil than usual.”

Smith continued: “And it just goes to show you what an incredible risk-reward calculation has to happen on the part of those small—independently owned, most of them—mom-and-pop gas stations. It’s a struggle for all of them!”

The Wall Street Journal article Smith referred to was almost as alarmist as the gang at Fox, reporting that gasoline prices quickly falling is “creating new headaches for the mom-and-pop entrepreneurs and other independent operators who run roughly half of U.S. gas stations,” adding that station owners risk “losing money on every new fuel order” they place.

Considering that those same gas stations have been making record profits for close to year now, it’s kind of difficult to feel the least bit sorry for them now that they’re seeing the laws of supply and demand hit them in the pocket the way they have consumers.

How long will it be before Fox is complaining that the sky’s too blue and puppies are way too cute?

Cassidy Hutchinson’s Testimony Set A Daytime Ratings Record And Humiliated Fox News

Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony on Tuesday was a massive ratings hit, according to the Los Angeles Times, setting a new daytime ratings record.

The Tuesday afternoon hearing, which the committee announced just a day ahead of time, featured 25-year-old Cassidy Hutchinson, who served as an aide to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Her dramatic testimony attracted 13,231,000 viewers across all major networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC, according to numbers from Nielsen, a ratings firm.

In comparison, some of the most highly-rated shows on television were no match for the ratings Hutchinson received even though they are broadcast in primetime.

The ratings for Hutchinson’s testimony would likely have been even higher had the hearing not taken place in the middle of the day when most people are at work.

Fox, it should be noted, was humiliated with the ratings they drew for programming during the publicized Tuesday hearing, drawing a paltry 1.7 million viewers during the same two-hour time timeframe between 1 and 3 p.m.

Even more embarrassing for Fox is that while the they refused to televise the hearing, many of their hosts spent the rest of the afternoon and evening trying to shoot holes in what Hutchinson had said under oath.

Donald Trump was clearly watching, and has been positively apoplectic in his reaction, The Independent reports:

Deriding her as a “whack job” and claiming he hardly knew her despite her role as a senior aide to former chief of staff Mark Meadows, he also claimed she had asked to decamp to Florida with him for employment after the end of his presidency.

“I was going down to Florida with a group of people,” Mr Trump claimed, “great group of people, patriots, and her name was thrown out there and they said, ‘stay away from her.’ They said bad things about her.”

He did not specify who “they” were. Mr. Trump has denied Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony that when he found out he was not being taken to the Capitol to march on Congress with his supporters, he lunged at the wheel of his presidential car and then grabbed an agent in his detail.

Devin Nunes Gets Slammed By Fox Host For Saying Fox ‘Destroyed’ MSNBC By Refusing To Air Jan. 6 Hearings

Former GOP congressman and current Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes got a lot more than he bargained for when he suggested on Fox News that the conservative network had “destroyed” MSNBC with its decision not to air any of the January 6 committee’s public hearing on Thursday evening.

Nunes was a guest Sunday on “Media Buzz,” and he immediately told host Howard Kurtz that the recent hearings were biased and worthless because there are no supporters of failed former president Donald Trump on the Jan. 6 committee.

Kurtz countered by asking:

“Does that mean the media shouldn’t cover it much? Does it mean they should dismiss videotaped deposition from the likes of Bill Barr, Jason Miller, Jared Kushner?”

Nunes then tried to suggest that ratings for the hearing were a bust:

“To put this in primetime, the numbers were way down. So I don’t understand how these big corporations — I know it was spread across some 20 different networks — when you compare Fox News which didn’t which did not air that live, it just destroyed CNN and MSNBC in the ratings, right?”

But Kurtz wasn’t about to let Nunes blatantly lie about the ratings, countering him by noting:

“Networks like MSNBC did very well covering this hearing. Obviously, it would appeal to the liberal viewers of that network.”

As a matter of fact, 20 million people watched Thursday’s broadcast of the hearings. Fox, on the other hand, only drew about 3 million viewers:

According to the New York Times, at least 20 million viewers tuned in to watch the hearings. Only 3 million opted for Fox, which deliberately avoided televising the historic event.

An audience of at least 20 million people watched the first prime-time hearing of the House Select Committee’s investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on Thursday night, according to Nielsen.

ABC attracted the biggest audience, with 5.2 million viewers. NBC and CBS each had an audience of more than three million. MSNBC averaged more than four million, and CNN drew 2.7 million. (The 20 million figure did not yet include PBS, so the total audience was most likely a bit bigger.)

As usual, Nunes and the other pro-Trump Republicans would rather lie than face facts.

The Ratings Are In: 20 Million Watched The Jan. 6 Hearing – Only 3 Million Watched Fox

Based on the numbers from the first televised hearing of the January 6 House Select Committee, it appears that Fox News dropped the ball in a big way and got destroyed in the ratings.

According to the New York Times, at least 20 million viewers tuned in to watch the hearings. Only 3 million opted for Fox, which deliberately avoided televising the historic event:

An audience of at least 20 million people watched the first prime-time hearing of the House Select Committee’s investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on Thursday night, according to Nielsen.

ABC attracted the biggest audience, with 5.2 million viewers. NBC and CBS each had an audience of more than three million. MSNBC averaged more than four million, and CNN drew 2.7 million. (The 20 million figure did not yet include PBS, so the total audience was most likely a bit bigger.)

MSNBC did especially well compared to Fox:

MSNBC averaged a whopping (for them) 4.161 million total viewers, trouncing both Fox News (2.957 million total viewers) by 29 percent and CNN (2.617 total million viewers) by 37 percent. CNN finished way ahead of its direct cable news competition in the key demographic for news programming, adults 25-54, with 709,000 viewers from that age range vs. 555,000 on MSNBC and 513,000 on Fox. That’s a 22 percent advantage over MSNBC and 28 percent win over Fox News.

The three Fox hosts who provided anti-coverage and criticism of the hearings — Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham — saw their numbers crater, which is bad news for the conservative network with more public hearings on the way in the weeks ahead.

Once again, Fox would rather lose tens of millions of viewers than air the truth. It’s one of many reasons they should remove the word “news” from their propaganda network.

Tucker Carlson Pitched An On-Air Hissy Fit During Thursday’s Jan. 6 Committee Hearing

Fox News host Tucker Carlson proved once again Thursday evening that he and the network he works for have zero credibility and are nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Republican Party and its would-be dictator for life, Donald Trump.

As the first evening of hearings from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol were beginning at 8:00 p.m., Carlson was starting his nightly show, and he made it clear from the get-go that he had no intention of letting any truth into his broadcast:

“This is the only hour on an American news channel that will not be carrying their propaganda live.

“They are lying, and we will not let them do it.”

HuffPost notes it wasn’t just Carlson’s ranting that was completely fact-free and at times hysterical:

He and his producers plastered hysterical chyrons across the screen for their millions of viewers to see: “JAN 6 CMTE FUELS FALSE NARRATIVES AS SHAM INVESTIGATION DRAGS ON.” “LEADERS WILL SPEND 90 MINUTES GIVING MORAL LECTURE.” “OUR LEADERS ARE FOCUSING ON JAN. 6 WHILE IGNORING THE REAL THREATS.”

And if all that wasn’t bad enough, Carlson also suggested that investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection might just led to another insurrection, which is ironic since he insisted there had been no insurrection in the first place:

“This was not an insurrection, but you know what will give you an insurrection? If you ignore legitimate concerns of a population. If you brush them aside like they don’t matter when gas goes to $5 and say ‘Buy an electric car.’ When cities become so filthy and dangerous that you can’t live there. When the economy becomes so distorted your children have no hope of getting married and giving you grandchildren. When you don’t care at all about any of that and all you do is talk about yourself, nonstop, you might get an insurrection if you behave like that, speaking of insurrections.”

Is that right, Tuck? Well, at least the FBI will know who to visit if and when that happens.
