Arriving in Los Angeles on Friday to survey the damage done by wildfires in the Golden State, Fascist-in-Chief Donald Trump was met on the airport tarmac by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and immediately put in his place after days of suggesting that the federal government might put “conditions” on any federal aid to help rebuild areas of the state ravaged by the flames.
“Trump said he was stunned by the devastation and vowed to partner with local officials to help victims,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
“We have to work together to get this really worked out,” Trump said during a meeting with Los Angeles officials. “I don’t think you can realize how … devastating it is until you see it. It’s incredible. It’s really an incineration.”
Despite his bluster earlier in the week about not being eager to send the state billions of dollars in federal money, Trump sounded a different tone once he had seen the damage.
“But during a roundtable meeting with residents and officials on Friday evening, his tone was much more subdued. He declared a national emergency, pledged to waive or expedite any federal permits needed for rebuilding, and did not mention specific conditions for federal aid. He also said he would look into the possibility of waiving tariffs on building materials.”
“I’m going to give you everything you want,” he told the group. “I’m going to give you more than any president would have ever given you.”
However, it was the face-to-face meeting between Newsom and Trump at the airport that drew the most attention and led to instant online ridicule of the president, who was dubbed a “beta male” for how he seemed to cower in Newsom’s presence.
“Trump cowers to Newsom. Of course,” Mike Madrid, co-founder of The Lincoln Project, observed on Twitter/X.
Madrid added, “Trump goes full beta male cowering to Gavin Newsom on the tarmac. Weak.”
Others then joined the fun.
