The SCOTUS Immunity Ruling May Actually Wind Up Being A Nightmare For Trump

While Monday’s 6-3 ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court that a president has immunity from prosecution for “official acts” was widely seen as a huge win for convicted felon Donald Trump, the court’s decision could also wind up being a nightmare for the disgraced ex-president, according to legal and political experts.

Attorney Bradley Moss explained on Twitter that while Trump’s attorneys may think their client is now immune from prosecution in the multiple pending criminal cases against him, it also means that Trump is more vulnerable than ever when it comes to how he can be treated.

“The Supreme Court just gave Biden unequivocal immunity to order the military to take action against Trump. Today. Right now.”

The Department of Justice could also order the immediate arrest of Trump on suspicion that he’s working for nations hostile to the national security of the United States or part of a larger domestic terror organization that attempted to overthrow the government on January 6, 2021.

Such a finding from the DOJ would then allow for Trump to be held without bail until it can be determined whether he presents a clear and present danger to the nation and our allies. That would be a death knell for the Trump 2024 campaign and likely lead to his defeat in the November election.

Speaking of the 2024 election, the high court’s decision could also come back to bite Trump politically, according to CNN commentator and former Obama administration adviser Van Jones.

“The more you look at it, the worse it looks,” Jones said. “When you put it all together, basically, the Supreme Court said in the past week, no rules for the powerful, no rights for the powerless. So if you’re homeless, you can be thrown in jail for the crime of not having enough money to get a hotel room, but if you’re the President of the United States, you can commit an undetermined number of crimes under color of law and get away with it. This is not good.”

Jones added, “I’m telling you, this is going to backfire politically. Because what I’m seeing from the left now, if you thought people were discouraged by what happened last week with Biden’s performance, they are now outraged and terrified that Donald Trump is going to get in office and be a complete madman dictator.”

“So this is — politically, this is a gift to the left, though it is a blow to the country,” he concluded.

How sweet it would be if the right-wingers on the Supreme Court, in an effort to protect Trump, wound up setting the stage for his downfall.

Terrified Trump Begs SCOTUS To Give Him Total Immunity As Court’s Decision Looms

Later today, the United States Supreme Court is expected to finally hand down its decision on whether or not convicted felon Donald Trump has total immunity from actions he took while in office, including his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

According to Politico, “How the court answers the immunity question could determine whether there remains even an outside chance that Trump will face a jury on those charges before Election Day. No matter the outcome, the ruling will be a landmark: It will be the first time the high court weighs in on whether a president can be criminally prosecuted for actions he took while in office.

“’We’re writing a rule for the ages,’ Justice Neil Gorsuch said at the April oral arguments in the case.”

Based on a posting he made Sunday on his financially-troubled Truth Social site, the disgraced former president is worried about what the court will decide shortly after 10 a.m., writing, “It should be a STRONG IMMUNITY, where proper decisions can be made, where our Country can be POWERFUL and THRIVE, and where Opponents cannot hold up and extort a Future President for Political Gain,” he added. “It is a BIG decision, an important decision, a decision which can affect the Success or Failure of our Country for decades to come.”

He added, “We want a GREAT Country, not a weak, withering, and ineffective one. STRONG PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY IS A MUST!”

A ruling in Trump’s favor could wind up being a mixed blessing, as it would also grant immunity to President Joe Biden, who could then have the ex-president arrested and imprisoned indefinitely. Theoretically, he could also invalidate the results of the upcoming election and declare himself president by fiat.

No matter what the high court rules, it’s clearer by the day that Trump must be defeated at the ballot box this November and then have to face the bar of justice for his many illegal actions.

Jamie Raskin Slams ‘Partisan’ Right-Wing SCOTUS Justices And Recommends A New Workplace For Them

Like millions of Americans who listened to oral arguments in the Supreme Court yesterday on the issue of presidential immunity, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said he was stunned that most of the right-wing justices seemed to believe that a president may have total immunity from criminal acts and therefore can act like a dictator and face no consequences.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “The Reid Out,” Raskin was asked by host Joy Reid about how blatantly partisan the six conservative justices sounded as they questioned attorneys for Special Counsel Jack Smith and former president Donald Trump, HuffPost reports.

“Well, they’re politicians who are not even subject to popular election unlike me,” Raskin replied. “They should move the Supreme Court over to the RNC headquarters because they’re acting like a bunch of partisan operatives.”

Focusing on a question from Justice Samuel Alito suggesting that democracy itself could be endangered if a president isn’t allowed to do anything he wants, no matter whether it’s legal or illegal, Raskin noted, “I mean, for all of American history, we’ve said presidents are subject to criminal prosecution if they commit crimes.”

“Now they say, ‘Well, if you’re really mean to Donald Trump and you hold him accountable the way every other American citizen is accountable, then he’ll really overthrow the government, he’ll really bring out the big guns and we can’t afford that.’ And that’s a kind of masochistic, capitulationism to Donald Trump’s authoritarianism.”

The Founding Fathers rebelled against England and King George III in large part because they were disgusted by the idea that one man could be above the law and rule by fiat and whim. It’s why they declared their independence and formed the United States of America.

Now, however, it appears that some on the Supreme Court are ready to give that same dictatorial power to a American head of state. Jefferson, Madison, and Washington must be spinning in their graves.
