Jimmy Carter Says He Only Has One Goal Left In Life As He Nears 100: To Vote For Kamala Harris

Former president Jimmy Carter will turn 100 on October 1, and he says he only has one goal left in life: To cast his ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris and see her become the 47th President of the United States.

According to his son, Chip, his father made his wishes known in a recent conversation the two had.

“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris.”

President Carter entered hospice care in February of 2023, but has been very interested in national and world events in recent weeks, according to his family.

Jason Carter, the former president’s grandson, noted his grandfather has been, “more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza” during discussions he’s had with him.

Though he served only one term as president from 1976 to 1980, Carter has continued to work on issues that confront the United States and the world since leaving office, helping negotiate peace deals, eradicate diseases in Third World countries, and overseeing foreign elections. His efforts won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, with the Nobel committee noting:

The Nobel Peace Prize 2002 was awarded to Jimmy Carter “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development”
