Impeachment The Trump Adminstration

William Barr Just Threw Rudy Giuliani Under The Bus

If you were wondering how long it would be before Donald Trump and the White House would sacrifice Rudy Giuliani in order to save their own skin, it turns out that Attorney General William Barr and the Department of Justice (DOJ)  have just cut the former New York City mayor loose and left him for the wolves to feast on.

The New York Times reports that the DOJ took the unusual move of issuing a statement late Sunday in which it disavowed Giuliani, going so far as to say they made a mistake by taking a meeting with Rudy if they’d known clients he represents were  under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York:

“When Mr. Benczkowski and fraud section lawyers met with Mr. Giuliani, they were not aware of any investigation of Mr. Giuliani’s associates in the Southern District of New York and would not have met with him had they known.”

As Salon notes, Giuliani asked for that meeting so he could discuss a bribery case in which the former mayor was representing the defendants:

“The meeting in question apparently took place before federal prosecutors in Manhattan indicted two of Giuliani’s associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, for allegedly violating campaign finance laws and engaging in a scheme to unlawfully influence U.S. politicians, including former Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas.

“Prosecutors in Manhattan reportedly informed Attorney General William Barr about the investigation of Parnas and Fruman soon after he was confirmed in February.”

The DOJ, in making such an announcement, has just made it crystal clear that Giuliani is on his own and cannot depend the White House to save his ass. It simply isn’t going to happen.

But something else is also at play here: The DOJ basically just put Giuliani out of business as an attorney. No one is going to be hiring Rudy to do anything for them because it’s patently obvious that he’s been made the scapegoat.

Problem is, while Trump and the toadies in his administration think they can pin the blame on Giuliani, Trump’s own remarks concerning his phone call with the Ukrainian president and those of his chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, are proof that there was indeed a quid pro quo.

Also, Giuliani isn’t the one being impeached, though he may be in serious legal trouble. Donald Trump’s neck is on the line, and all the scapegoating in the world isn’t going to be able to extricate him from the hole he’s dug for himself.

Mr. Barr, “Prosecutors in Manhattan reportedly informed Attorney General William Barr about the investigation of Parnas and Fruman soon after he was confirmed in February.”
And you said or did nothing until now???? How about you tender your resignation immediately, and turn your self in for criminal liability in trying to cover this up?
