On Friday, President Joe Biden will visit the state of Texas to see firsthand the damage wrought by Winter Storm Uri, which left millions of Texans without power and water for nearly a full week and killed 80 people.
It’s a tradition for a president to invite senators from the state he’s about to visit to fly on Air Force One with the POTUS, but the White House just made it clear that neither Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) or John Cornyn (R-TX) will be afforded that honor, the Daily Mail reports:
“White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that because Dr. Jill Biden is joining her husband on the trip and because of social distancing requirements of COVID, neither Cruz nor fellow Texas Senator John Cornyn would be on the trip.
“‘Dr. Biden is traveling, of course, with us to Texas,’ Psaki said at her press briefing Thursdsay. ‘There are some limitations on space available.'”
So not only did the administration manage to completely humiliate Cruz and Cornyn, they used COVID as a reason for why they wouldn’t be invited. That’s absolutely brilliant!
Of course, this is just the latest humiliation for Sen. Cruz, who tried to sneak off to Cancun with his family and then had to return to Texas when he was photographed hopping a jet out of the U.S. and abandoning his constituents at their time of need.
When he came back, Cruz hemmed and hawed, saying he was just escorting his two daughters to Mexico and never had any intention on staying with them, telling reporters:
“And all of us have made decisions – when you’ve got two girls who have been cold for two days, and haven’t had heat or power, and they are saying: ‘Look, we don’t have school, why don’t we go, let’s get out of here.'”
Whatever, Ted. But no Air Force One for you!
