Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz got hit with what can best be called a karmic choking spasm for lying about American tax money being used to fund “sex change surgeries in Guatemala” during an appearance on Fox News, and video of the incident has gone viral.
Cruz was attacking Democrats for criticizing unelected president Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) making massive cuts to programs when he went on an extended harangue.

Cruz took a sip of water and then began choking, blurting out the line “sex change surgeries in Guatemala!”
The senator’s allegation of sex change surgeries in foreign nations being paid for with taxpayer money is completely false.
USAID made a $2 million grant to an LGBTQ rights group in Guatemala, but it wasn’t used to fund sex change surgeries. Instead, the money went for medication, mental health care, and speech therapy.
