For two years now, congressional Republicans have said they wanted to focus on inflation and other economic items, and yet now that they’ve narrowly won control of the House, they’re making it clear their real goal is to launch one investigation after another as a way of harming President Joe Biden politically.
Take, for example, a press conference held Thursday by several GOP House members of the Judiciary and Oversight committees.
Reporters asked there would be any hearings on the fallout from the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol:
“Do you think the Jan. 6 insurrectionists have been wrongly imprisoned?”
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who is expected to be chairman of the Judiciary Committee, replied:
“I didn’t say anything! All I said is we’re going to look at the politics of the Justice Department based on the fact that we have had 14 different — actually more than 14 now — whistleblowers come talk to us.”
Rep. James Comer (R-KY) interjected:
“If we could keep it about Hunter Biden. This is kind of a big deal we think. If we can keep it about Hunter Biden that would be great.”
Another reporter asked about the future of the House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6, to which a testy Comer responded:
“I think that’s a question for Kevin McCarthy.”
The next two years in the House of Representatives are going to be a clown show on steroids. But that’s what happens when you put idiots in charge of anything.
