The investigation of the Trump Organization taking place in New York has garnered most of the headlines since failed, one-term former President Donald Trump left office after being beaten badly by President Joe Biden, but there’s another criminal investigation underway in Georgia that could also lead to the ex-president being indicted on criminal charges.
According to The Daily Beast, the Georgia election interference case is heating up once again in the Peach State:
“A local criminal investigation into then-President Donald Trump’s attempt to meddle with Georgia’s 2020 election recount is inching forward, as Fulton County investigators have interviewed elections officials and received documents from the agency, according to three people with direct knowledge of the probe.”
That was confirmed by Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, who remarked:
“They’ve asked us for documents, they’ve talked to some of our folks, and we’ll cooperate fully.”
Since the Georgia investigation being conducted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis began several months ago, her office has been quiet on the matter, but sources are now shedding new light on the probe:
“(Willis’) investigators have since interviewed at least four officials at the secretary of state’s office, asking questions that show a particular interest in Raffensperger’s separate phone conversations with Trump and U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, according to two of these sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The allegations that led to the Georgia probe are that Trump directly communicated with Georgia officials in an effort to have legal ballots disqualified so he would be declared the winner in the state. Instead, he lost narrowly to Biden and the state’s two Senate seats were also won by Democrats in a special runoff.
The case against Trump’s former attorney, Rudy Giuliani, appears to be strong:
“As The Daily Beast has previously reported, prosecutors are eyeing “false statement” charges against Giuliani, who acted on Trump’s behalf when he spoke before Georgia’s state Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Dec. 3, 2020 and detailed his rigged election conspiracy. Giuliani lied that the state counted 96,600 ‘phantom votes,’ repeating the same bonkers claim that fueled Sidney Powell’s so-called ‘Kraken’ lawsuit—which was promptly tossed out by a federal judge.
“Giuliani also presented fake evidence of voting machine flaws and ‘mystery ballot boxes.’ And he repeated the claims a week later on Dec. 10 before the state’s House Governmental Affairs Committee.”
Giuliani and Trump are currently on the outs with each other, as the former president is refusing to pay legal fees to the former New York City mayor. So Rudy has every incentive to flip on Trump in order to save his own hide. If he does, that could prove to be very bad news for the Donald.
