A week after a search warrant was served at his Mar-a-Lago golf club in Palm Beach, Florida, failed one-term former president Donald Trump has now announced that the FBI “stole” his three passports.
On Truth Social (a.k.a Twitter for losers), Trump angrily announced that he was now without a valid passport:
“Wow! In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports (one expired), along with everything else. This is an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country. Third World!”
What Trump failed to note is that the State Department (or the FBI) can take back any U.S. passport anytime they want to, for any reason whatsoever. A passport, much like a driver’s license, is a privilege, not a right.
Why did Trump have three passports? Well, says one was expired, which is perfectly acceptable. But what about the second one?
Trump likely had a personal passport and a diplomatic one which he was given while in the White House. Now that he’s no longer president, the diplomatic one is no longer valid and should have been surrendered.
Why did the FBI take the passports? Probably because they feared the ex-president would try to flee the country.
