Republicans, conservatives, and right-wingers simply cannot make up their feeble minds. They don’t want to wear protective face masks, but they also don’t want to get vaccinated for COVID-19. In other words, they want to pretend there’s no pandemic and hundreds of thousands of Americans haven’t already died. It’s almost as if they believe that if we ignore the virus, it’ll get its feelings hurt and go away.
Today, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that the House of Representatives will once again impose a mask mandate on all members of Congress and staffers. It’s an attempt to help control spread of COVID-19, especially since the dangerous Delta variant of the disease it wreaking havoc on the nation.
News of the mandate infuriated many House Republicans, including Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, who took to the floor of the House and pitched a childish hissy fit, declaring:
As if that wasn’t unhinged enough, Roy was just getting warmed up, and he continued his rant, acting like a spoiled child who had just been told he had to go to bed instead of being allowed to stay up late:
Bo freaking hoo! Chip Roy isn’t getting his way, so he wants to shut down Congress so he can go back to Texas, sit at home, and get paid with taxpayer money. What a sweet deal that would be! Hell, most of us would love getting a salary of $174,000 a year with full benefits and a guaranteed pension plan to sit around and do nothing other than make speeches the way Roy and his GOP colleagues do.
The solution is simple: Either we all get vaccinated for the good of the country, or we get used to wearing masks. That the choice we face. Chip Roy needs to either man up or resign his seat in Congress.
