Perhaps sensing that he is on the cusp of being convicted for paying hush money to Stormy Daniels and interfering in the 2016 presidential election, disgraced former president Donald Trump begged congressional Republicans to “step in” and “take action” to save him from the consequences of his crimes.
Posting on his failing Truth Social site at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, Trump’s fear was palpable.
“We have a Rigged Judge, who is working for the Democrat Party and refuses to terminate this ‘case,’ which should have never been brought by Soft on Crime Alvin Bragg,”
“Judge [Juan] Merchan should be immediately removed, and the Appellate Courts have to take over. That also applies to Corrupt Judge [Arthur] Engoron, who knew I did nothing wrong, and still fraudulently fined me $500 Million Dollars while having no knowledge of Valuation, Finance, or in any way what he was doing. Same with Judge Kaplan, who allowed a woman, who I have never met (celebrity photo line does not count!), and know nothing about, to get a lawless judgment of $90 Million Dollars. New York Justice is in shambles, and only the Appellate Courts can save it.”
Trump was far from finished, however, adding, “A Republican doesn’t stand a chance. This is not Justice.”
“This New York Cabal, run by Crooked Joe Biden’s White House, is a hit job on a Political Opponent the likes of which the USA has never seen before. For the Good of our Country, it must be stopped. The Crooked Joe Biden Witch Hunts have to be ended. REPUBLICANS IN WASHINGTON MUST TAKE ACTION!”
It’s unclear what exactly Trump thinks members of Congress could possibly do to protect him since the New York court system is not answerable to any Washington political figure. But the online ranting from the failed ex-president suggests he’s incredibly scared and can sense that the trial is slipping away from him as his overwhelmed attorneys try one desperate legal tactic after another, with each one failing.
If he’s convicted in Manhattan, Trump could face prison time, The Independent reports.
“Should Mr Trump ultimately be found guilty, he could theoretically face more than a decade in prison, according to CNN chief legal analyst Laura Coates, who points out that the felony counts against Mr Trump are classified as Class E crimes in New York, which are the lowest level felonies in the state.”
“The maximum sentence for each count is four years in prison, which would add up to 136 years behind bars, but as Ms Coates explains, New York imposes a 20-year sentencing cap for this type of offence, with a decision on whether the sentences run concurrently or consecutively left up to the judge.”
20 years in a New York prison? No wonder the 77-year-old is so scared. 20 years would mean he’d likely die while incarcerated.
Oh, well, as the old saying goes, Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
