Capitol Insurrection GOP U.S. Senate

Senator Brian Schatz Burns Down Josh Hawley For His ‘Solidarity’ With Insurrectionists

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) is a normally soft-spoken and reserved member of the U.S. Senate, but he lit into Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) for his “solidarity” with the January 6 Capitol insurrectionists and placing indefinite holds on appointees to the Departments of Defense and State.

Schatz began by accusing Hawley of jeopardizing the military readiness of the United States:

“So, what Senator Hawley wants is to go through his litany of criticisms of the Biden administration, and the truth is that every senator has that right without blocking the logistics guy from the Department of Defense. He could’ve brought his floor charts out here and given a withering speech about all of the things he thought went wrong.

“But he’s doing a very specific thing. He is damaging the Department of Defense. We have senior DoD leaders, we have the Armed Services Committee coming to us and saying, ‘I don’t know what to tell him, I don’t know how to satisfy him, but he is blocking the staffing of the senior leadership at the Department of Defense.'”

But Schatz was just getting warmed up, and he soon turned to Hawley’s complicity in what transpired on Jan. 6:

“And this comes from a guy who raised his fist in solidarity with the insurrectionists. And this comes from a guy who, before the Russian invasion, suggested that maybe it would be wise for Zelensky to make a few concessions about Ukraine and their willingness to join NATO. This comes from a guy who just about a month ago voted against Ukraine aid! He’s saying it’s going too slow. He voted ‘no’! He voted ‘no’ on Ukraine aid and now he has the gall to say it’s going too slow!”

The Hawaii Democrat ended his speech with this flourish:

“And coming from a person who exonerated Donald Trump for extorting Zelensky for withholding lethal aid? They withheld lethal aid until, unless Zelensky would release false smears against Joe Biden’s son. And then he voted to exonerate President Trump for this. And so spare me the new solidarity with the Ukrainians and with the free world because this man’s record is exactly the opposite.

“I yield the floor.”

Josh Hawley will forever be known by the image of his raised fist as he walked by a group of protesters just hours before the rioting began. He may have designs on being president one day, but his cowardly and traitorous actions have likely killed that dream.

GOP Senators Make Fools Of Themselves When The Question Is Turned On Them: ‘What’s A Woman?’

During the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson last month in the Senate Judiciary Committee, Republicans wanted Judge Jackson to define what a “woman” is.

The question came first from Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who sits on the committee even though she has never been an attorney and holds a degree in home economics. She inquired:

“Can you define the word ‘woman’?”

Jackson replied:

“Can I provide a definition? No, I can’t. I’m not a biologist.”

That led Blackburn to snidely remark:

“The fact that you can’t give me a straight answer about something as fundamental as what a woman is underscores the dangers of the kind of progressive education that we are hearing about.”

The darker, more insidious purpose of the query, HuffPost notes, was to get Judge Jackson to wade into the issue of transgender rights:

The real aim of Blackburn’s question was almost certainly to try to corner Jackson on the issue of transgender women participating in women’s sports ― part of a broader, ugly GOP attack on LGBTQ people heading into the 2022 elections. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is pushing for child abuse investigations of parents whose children seek gender-affirming medical care. Florida’s new “Don’t Say Gay” law prevents teachers from talking about sexual orientation or gender identity to students younger than fourth graders. The Human Rights Campaign, meanwhile, is tracking more than 300 anti-LGBTQ bills across the country.

But when the same question is turned on Republicans in the Senate, it turns out they’re not equal to the test, as proven by some of their responses:

“I don’t have anything for you on that.” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)

“I’m not going to indulge you.” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

A spokesperson for Blackburn offered this, “Two X chromosomes.”

If that’s not pathetic enough for you, listen to what Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said:

“The birds and the bees stuff ― it’s been a while, but I think I remember the general gist of the differences. To have a hard time answering that question is kind of odd to me.”

And then there’s insurrection apologist Josh Hawley (R-MO), who replied thusly:

“Someone who can give birth to a child, a mother, is a woman. Someone who has a uterus is a woman. It doesn’t seem that complicated to me.”

So if a woman has a hysterectomy and her uterus is removed, is she still a woman, Sen. Hawley?

“Yeah. Well, I don’t know, would they?”

Hey, if you can’t answer the question more definitively than that, should you be attacking Judge Jackson? Or should you even be allowed on the judiciary committee?

Hypocrites. Every damn one of them.

Marsha Blackburn Tries To Give Liberals A Lesson On The Constitution And Winds Up Proving Her Own Ignorance

In an effort to explain why she is opposed to the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) cited the U.S. Constitution as her rationale.

But instead of referencing the Constitution, Blackburn proved her own massive ignorance, quoting the Declaration of Independence.

Here’s the tweet Blackburn sent out on Wednesday afternoon:

Um…no.

As HuffPost notes, this isn’t the first time Blackburn has gotten American history horrible wrong:

Blackburn has something of a history of constitutional screwups. Last year, she vowed: “We will never rewrite the Constitution of the United States,” seemingly ignoring the 27 times it’s been amended. Blackburn even co-sponsored resolutions in support of three potential amendments.

It didn’t take long before social media lit up with laughter and mockery, all aimed at the ditzy Tennessee senator, who has a degree in home economics and clearly didn’t bother to study very hard in college.

Pro-Trump Missouri Senate Candidate Accused Of Horrifyingly Violent Abuse Of His Children

Eric Greitens is a pro-Trump GOP candidate who wants to be the next Senator from the state of Missouri who was once governor of the Show Me State but was forced to resign in 2018 when he was accused of stealing from a charity and making unwanted sexual advances towards a hairdresser who was working for him.

And now, the Washington Post reports, Greitens is accused by his ex-wife abusing her and their children in horrifically violent ways:

Sheena Greitens, who now lives with their children in Austin, where she works as a university associate professor, described for the first time publicly what she says she experienced at the end of their marriage, in documents filed as part of an ongoing child custody dispute in Missouri state court.

“In early June 2018, I became afraid for my safety and that of our children at our home, which was fairly isolated, due to Eric’s unstable and coercive behavior,” she wrote in the filing, which was obtained from Boone County Circuit Court. “This behavior included physical violence toward our children, such as cuffing our then three-year-old son across the face at the dinner table in front of me and yanking him around by the hair.”

Ms. Greitens also detailed abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband:

Sheena Greitens also said that after her ex-husband knocked her down and took her cellphone, keys and wallet from her in April 2018, he explained his actions to her mother.

“When my mother later confronted him about this, he told her that he did so to prevent me from doing anything that might damage his political career,” Sheena Greitens said in the document.

On another occasion in November of 2019, Ms. Greitens alleges that one of her children came home from a visit with her ex-husband “with a swollen face, bleeding gums, and a loose tooth.”

“He said Dad had hit him; however, Eric said they were roughhousing and it had been an accident,” Sheena Greitens said in the document. The tooth, she added, later died and had to be removed.

This court filing comes as Eric Greitens is seeking the endorsement of the failed, one-term, twice-impeached former president. It remains unclear if Trump’s formal blessing could catapult Greitens into the lead, but a candidate as flawed as him would have a difficult time winning, no matter who the Democratic nominee winds up being.

Georgia GOP Senate Candidate Herschel Walker Says Evolution Is Bogus Because ‘There Are Still Apes’

According to Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker, the theory of evolution is bogus because apes and humans currently coexist on the planet.

Walker made his remarks during an appearance at a Georgia church over the weekend, HuffPost reports:

“At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not? … If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it.”

Yeah, think about it. Because it’s quite clear that Walker didn’t give it much thought.

Evolution doesn’t say that humans evolved from the apes that are found at the zoo. Instead, both humans and apes have a common ancestor that walked the Earth about 10 million years ago.

Humans are also technically classified as apes, but that doesn’t mean the chimp you see at the zoo is just one evolutionary step from being fully human. And there’s nothing that prohibits apes and humans from coexisting at the same time. If there was, then one of the two species wouldn’t be here.

Walker went on to try and prove his thesis about why God is necessary for all creation by saying that science “can’t do” the “conception of a baby.”

“They’re still trying to do that, but they can’t, because there has to be a God.”

Does there have to be a God for in vitro fertilization? If so, is he found in the test tube or the contents of that glassware? And if God is in everything, how to explain the existence of evil people such as serial killers, genocidal dictators, and cult leaders?

Amazingly, Walker is currently in the lead in a head-to-head matchup with current Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who just so happens to be an ordained minister and could probably quote the Bible a lot more fluently and accurately than Walker, whose claim to fame is that he used to play professional football and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982.
