Coronavirus Corruption WTF?!

GOP Virus Relief Package Includes $500 Billion ‘Slush Fund’ Controlled By Mnuchin

The $1.8 trillion coronavirus financial relief package that President Donald Trump said would be on his desk no later than today remains bottled up in Congress, in large part because Republicans in the House and Senate insist on stuffing the bill with billions in corporate welfare that would benefit some of the richest multinational corporations on the planet while at the same time stripping away protections for workers, according to the Washington Post:

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) delayed an initial procedural vote on a $1.8 trillion bill as it became clear it would fail due to Democratic opposition, moving the vote from mid-afternoon to evening to allow more time for talks.

“At the same time, McConnell said it was time for Democrats to ‘take yes for an answer’ and accept a bill that he said incorporated many of their ideas. Democrats, though, alleged McConnell’s bill is tilted too far in favor of corporations and doesn’t include much oversight for $500 billion in loans and guarantees that could go to firms selected by the Treasury Department.”

Be sure and pay special attention to the last sentence in that second paragraph: “Democrats, though, alleged McConnell’s bill is tilted too far in favor of corporations and doesn’t include much oversight for $500 billion in loans and guarantees that could go to firms selected by the Treasury Department.”

In essence, a $500 billion slush fund would be created. And it would be controlled by Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, who could give the money to any company or individual he chooses, and he wouldn’t be required to disclose the recipients for up to six months.

And, just in case you were wondering: Mnuchin could dole out millions to the Trump Organization if he likes, as the president hasn’t said definitively that he would refuse such assistance.

A slush fund for the richest Americans. It’s a dream come true for Donald Trump and his grifter family.

It didn’t take long for Twitter to explode with outrage over the half-trillion dollar giveaway to fat cats, all at Mnuchin’s discretion:

The time has come for each and every American to let his or her member of the House or Senate know that there cannot be any slush fund or corporate bailouts. Workers and families must be the priority. Otherwise, this bill is nothing but a grab bag of goodies for the top 1 percent. God knows they’ve gotten enough benefits since Trump took office.

Corruption Crime The Trump Adminstration

Mnuchin, Barr Implicated In Scheme To Benefit Turkish Bank

While President Donald Trump was busy patting himself on the back for a so-called ceasefire in Syria that he hailed as a “great day for civilization,” two members of Trump’s cabinet found themselves in the middle of a scandal involving a Turkish bank that began with a direct order from Trump.

The Daily Beast, citing a story which originated at Bloomberg, reports:

“President Trump referred Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s repeated requests for the U.S. to avoid pressing charges on one of the country’s largest banks to Attorney General William Barr and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Bloomberg reports. Trump reportedly told Erdogan in an April call that Barr and Mnuchin would handle the issue, and no charges were pressed against Turkish bank Halkbank until recently.”

The Southern District of New York held off charging Halkbank until Wednesday, when, in a fit of anger, Trump announced sanctions against Turkey for their continued military incursion into areas of Syria that were just abandoned by U.S. troops.

Here’s how Barr and Mnuchin used their positions and departments in order to shield the Turkish bank from any serious consequences:

  • Barr: The attorney general served as a sort of legal adviser to Halkbank, advising “Turkey on its best option: a deferred prosecution agreement that would require Halkbank to pay a fine and other actions to prevent further wrongdoing.” In other words, Barr helped the Turks skirt the law and make sure they got little more than a slap on the hand.
  • Mnuchin: Treasury Secretary Mnuchin was involved because his department determines “the regulatory penalties against Halkbank for a separate criminal case involving one of their executives.”

Halkbank was treated with kid gloves because Erdogan asked Trump for a favor. And since Erdogan had already made it possible for Trump to build Trump Towers Istanbul, Trump was only too happy to comply with Erdogan’s request. The quid pro quo could not possibly be any clearer.

There can no longer be any doubt that the entire Trump administration is corrupt and engaged in a host of crimes. Not only does Trump need to be impeached, but his crooked appointees should also be removed from office and prosecuted for their crimes.

Crime The Trump Adminstration

Turns Out Steve Mnuchin Has His Own Weird Connection To Jeffrey Epstein

You may recall that former Trump administration Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta wound up having to resign his cabinet position when it came to light that when he was still a U.S. Attorney in Florida, he made a sweetheart deal with the convicted sexual predator/pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

But now it appears that another top official in the Trump cabinet also has a connection to the late Mr. Epstein.

According to The Daily Beast:

“In official records, Mnuchin is listed as the official state point of contact for Next Management Corporation, a company formed in 1988 by modeling-industry insiders Jean-Luc Brunel and Arnaud Brunel. At the time, Jean-Luc Brunel had just been the subject of a 60 Minutes documentary accusing him of drugging and raping at least three models. Later, he would be accused by two women of supplying girls to Epstein to be sexually abused. (Brunel has denied the allegations.)”

Yep, Mnuchin appears to be the official business contact person for a modeling agency that was partially owned by a man who provided underage girls to Epstein.

But wait, it gets even seedier, not to mention considerably more perverse.

“A former bookkeeper for one of Brunel’s agencies told the FBI in 2010 that Brunel used the company to bring in teenage models from around the world, and housed them in Epstein’s Upper East Side apartments. The bookkeeper claimed the girls were loaned out to wealthy clients for as much as $100,000 a night and were not paid if they refused to be ‘molested.'”

As you would expect, the Treasury Department and Mnuchin say they have absolutely no idea how his name got connected up with Brunel or Epstein, but their denials have the unmistakable aroma of bullshit:

“A Treasury Department official said Mnuchin did not know he was listed as the DOS process for Next Management Corp. before The Daily Beast’s inquiry. He said it was ‘not clear’ how Mnuchin wound up serving in that role and added that the secretary did not recall ever meeting either Brunel brother and had never done business with either of them.”

So he’s never done business with them, but his name is on the forms filed by the business owners. Did Brunel and his partners just pull Mnuchin’s name out of the New York phone book at random and list him on the forms? Again, that sounds like one hell of a coincidence.

It remains unclear where all of these clues lead, but keep in mind that while Epstein is indeed dead, he left behind lots of evidence in the form of files and videotapes in his personal safe. Those are now in the possession of prosecutors in New York and may well help shed light on both Mnuchin and Donald Trump’s real connections to the notorious hedge fund manager who killed himself rather than face justice.

Stay tuned. This page of infamy regarding the Trump White House is far from being complete.
