Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) has seen the polls and early voting results in the Peach State, and she knows she’s trailing her Democratic opponent, Rev. Raphael Warnock. But rather than point out where she stands on the issues — COVID-19, the economy, health care — Loeffler decided she’d head straight for the gutter and attack Warnock for daring to be an African-American man.
During a campaign rally Saturday evening, Loeffler tried to suggest that Warnock was some sort of depraved black man, the same kind of evil stereotype that was frequently used in the old days of Jim Crow, when a black man could be lynched for so much as looking at a white woman for too long.
Dave Weigel of the Washington Post caught part of Loeffler’s speech, and he shared it on Twitter:
Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, pointed out exactly the depths to which Loeffler had just stooped:
Keep in mind that Loeffler — who seems to believe she alone is fitting to be a Senator for a Southern state — was appointed to her seat by the Republican governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp. She has no prior government service and her sole claim to fame seems to be that she married a multimillionaire Wall Street tycoon and travels in the right social circles.
Kelly Loeffler and her equally disgusting counterpart, Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) are both bigoted cowards who aren’t worthy of the U.S. Senate. Hopefully Georgia voters will send both of them to an early retirement next Tuesday.
