Pennsylvania School District Bans Book About Rosa Parks Over Fake ‘Critical Race Theory’ Outrage

On Monday in the city of York, Pennsylvania, the Central York School Board voted to keep a list of banned books dealing with race on its resource list or materials for students, despite protests from students and members of the community.

According to the York Daily Record:

Jane Johnson, president of the school board, said in a Sept. 10 release the materials were banned because of concerns from parents, the retirement of longstanding Superintendent Michael Snell and the shelving of a social studies program which focused on Black Lives Matter and other racial justice material.

Johnson said the content was banned because of the material and not because the authors are almost all from Black or Latinx heritage.

“The board believes that the fundamental purpose of school is that of core academics, objective education without indoctrination from any political or social agenda, and we look forward to the forthcoming review of the List and bringing balance to our classrooms,” Johnson’s statement read.

One of the books on the list is I Am Rosa Parks, written by Brad Meltzer, who has also authored historical books for children about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Martin Luther King, Jr., among others. He said Sunday on CNN that he cannot understand why the school board objects to a book about civil rights icon Rosa Parks:

“You know, all my friends were so angry, but I was heartbroken. I was heartbroken because it means that there are all these students that will never hear the story of Rosa Parks. And that’s exactly why I started writing these books, is to kids can see these amazing members of history. They can learn empathy, and compassion, and kindness. They can call it a freeze, but when kids can’t get these books, it’s a ban. And these kids can’t get the story of Rosa Parks or Malala [Yousafzai] or others, it breaks my heart.”

Meltzer added that teachers are now telling him they’re afraid to even mention race in their classrooms:

“Race is a hard subject matter, but nothing good comes from not discussing something that’s hard. And to me, that’s what these great leaders always stand for is you have to deal with these issues. If we don’t, we can’t go forward. What you’re seeing now is a pushback against that boogeyman of critical race theory where they are scared of what to do.”

What makes no sense at all, Meltzer concluded, is that the people making the decisions about what to teach to black children are all white:

“Listen, you have an all-white school board who bans a list that is basically almost every person on there, is it a book about someone who’s Black or by a Black author? Do the math on that. And when you hit Rosa Parks, a children’s book about Rosa Parks, the reason I’m talking to you today is that you realize that in all the back and pointing fingers, we’ve lost common sense. It’s Rosa Parks. You messed up if you’re banning Rosa Parks.”

Banning Rosa Parks. There should be a law against THAT, not against teaching the history of this country.

Mike Pompeo Gets Slapped Down On Twitter For Saying Teaching Kids About Racism Is ‘Really Dangerous’

Like dozens of other delusional Republicans, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is seriously considering seeking the 2024 GOP nomination for president, even though his chances of winning are probably about 1 percent or even lower.

But despite the longshot odds Pompeo is facing, he felt a need to weigh in on the crisis du jour for his party these days: Critical race theory.

Critical race theory has suddenly become the hot-button issue for Republicans, even though it has never been taught in any public school and is only found in some legal theory classes at university-level law schools.

Pompeo entered the fray on Twitter, posting this:

The founding of the United States was flawed. Slaves were deemed to only have 3/5ths of the value of a white man, but were still counted at that decreased rate for the purpose of the census so that Southern states would agree to ratify the Constitution. Women were not allowed to vote, either. Neither were men who didn’t own property in many states. Does that sound fair and equitable?

This country was indeed founded on racist principles, with 41 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence being slave holders! There was no independence for slaves, and shouldn’t every student know that fact? It’s essential to understand why the actions of men and women such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks were so important and resonated with millions of Americans.

Soon after he fired off his Tweet, Pompeo got plenty of reaction on social media, where many reminded him that truth is always a good thing, especially when it shines light on the ugly past of this country:

The United States is imperfect. Every nation is. But we can take comfort in these words that express what we hope to strive for each and every day, generation to generation:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

A more perfect union should always be our goal. And we can only reach that goal by telling the truth, no matter how horrible it might be.

Newsmax Guest: Teaching Kids About Slavery Will Lead To ‘Death Camps’ For White People

Over the years, there’s been some absolutely moronic, absurd, and misleading shit said on right-wing media, most notably Fox News, which is infamous for trafficking in lies and conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact or grounding in reality.

But in today’s wide-open media bouillabaisse of anything goes inanity — fueled in part by the explosion of social media platforms and ubiquity of the internet everywhere you go — we have even more extreme mutant strains of nutbaggery such as Newsmax, where today’s batshit, head-shaking headline originated with a discussion of “critical race theory” which led to a guest warning that teaching about slavery and how whites have treated blacks in the United States over the centuries will result in “death camps” for white people.

Those words came from right-wing radio host Michael Savage, who told Newsmax hosts Steve Cortes and Jenn Pellegrino that there’s already violence against whites all over the country:

“And now they’re beating up white children in schoolrooms. And I’m not going to mince words. You can cut me off if you have to. I know you probably agree with me. I can’t take this anymore. And there’s only one solution to it—sue the goddamn schools if they do it to your child for child abuse, and you will win.”

Yeah, kids didn’t start beating each other up until racism became a topic of discussion, right, Michael? As for suing for child abuse, can we also sue parents who voted for Trump and believe his bullshit? Seems only fair, don’t you agree?

Rather than provide proof of his specious assertions, Savage went full douche and brought up Nazi Germany and the Holocaust:

“The same kind of thing started in Germany. The Jews were no good. The Jews did this. The Jews did that. The next thing you know they were being excluded from swimming pools. They didn’t put them in concentration camps overnight.

“I studied this intimately. I am Jewish. I know how this starts. Attacks on white people is exactly what was done to the Jews in Germany in the 1930s. Don’t fall for this garbage. This is the road to the death camps. Stand up to these bastards and sue them!”

Jewish Americans were once excluded from public swimming pools, clubs, and schools in this country, too. Did it lead to concentration camps? No. It led to reforms, change, and a growth in American consciousness that allowed this country to evolve and realize the ignorance of such discrimination.

We have to understand where we’ve been as a nation in order to make sure we don’t repeat the past endlessly and lose our souls. Learning from history — even the dark and controversial parts — is how we prevent repeating it.

Fox News Reporter Gets Humiliated When He Claims Biden Is Just As Racist As Trump

At Monday’s daily White House press briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy thought he’d ask a question while also attempting to make an absurd comparison between President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump.

Specifically, Doocy asked about new travel restrictions on the United Kingdom (along with large parts of Europe) and South Africa to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 variants that have been discovered in those areas:

“President Trump was imposing travel restrictions in March specifically on China. Then-candidate Biden called it ‘xenophobic’ and ‘fear-mongering.’ So, now-President Biden is putting travel restrictions on people coming in from other countries. What words would you use to describe this?”

Press Secretary Jen Psaki replied:

“Well, I don’t think that’s quite a fair articulation. The President has been clear that he felt the Muslim ban was xenophobic; he overturned the Muslim ban. He also though has supported, and he himself – even before we did, I should say even before he was inaugurated – steps, travel restrictions in order to keep the American people safe, to ensure that we are getting the pandemic under control, that’s been part of his policy, but he was critical of the former president for having a policy that was not more comprehensive than travel restrictions, and he conveyed at the time and, more recently, the importance of having a multifaceted approach, mask wearing, vaccine distribution, funding in order to get 100 million shots in the arms of Americans in the first 100 days, not just travel restrictions.”

Not only that, but Trump’s China travel ban didn’t do a bit of good. The novel coronavirus entered the U.S. from Europe, not China, and yet Trump steadfastly refused to ban travel from Europe.

Doocy was ripped to shreds on Twitter for his lame attempt to equate Biden with Trump:

GOP Senator Tom Cotton Introduces Legislation To Punish Schools That Teach About Slavery

Proving yet again that Republicans are utterly clueless when it comes to matters of American history and racism, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) introduced a piece of legislation that withhold federal education funds to any schools that dare to teach about how African-Americans were brought to this country in chains and forced to work.


CNN reports that Cotton is specifically targeting public schools that use the recent New York Times series entitled the “1619 Project”:

“A statement from the senator’s office announcing the bill introduction states that the legislation will be titled the Saving American History Act of 2020 and ‘would prohibit the use of federal funds to teach the 1619 Project by K-12 schools or school districts. Schools that teach the 1619 Project would also be ineligible for federal professional-development grants.'”


Cotton even touted his legislation with great pride:

How is learning about the history of this country and of the ugly stain of slavery Marxist propaganda? And if it is, wouldn’t that make any legislation to deny the teaching of it be an attempt to impose intellectual fascism on the educational system, which is supposed to encourage debate instead of preventing it before it ever begins?


Like so many of his colleagues in the GOP, Cotton thinks the issue of slavery is in the past and has no relevance to today’s world. Some Republicans have even suggested that the election of Barack Obama in 2012 proves the United States isn’t racist. If that were true, then George Floyd and so many other black men would still be alive.

Granted, Cotton’s has no chance of passing the full Senate, but his legislation is a slap in the face of legitimate inquiry into the more troubling aspects of American history. And God knows there’s plenty of those to take a closer look at.

Tom Cotton and his ilk need to be voted out of office. They don’t have the sense that God promised a billy goat.
