NRA Loses Again–Judge Rejects Case Against Seattle’s ‘Gun Violence Tax’

Well, well. Looks like the NRA is getting a big lump of coal under its Christmas tree this year courtesy of a judge in Washington state. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving collection of gun nuts.

Tuesday, King County Superior Court Judge Palmer Robinson refused to grant a request by gun rights groups that would have put on hold Seattle’s “gun violence tax.”

In August, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed the so-called “gun tax” on all buyers and sellers of firearms and ammunition in the city. Revenue from the tax will be used to fund gun violence prevention programs and research beginning in January of 2016.

Another measure passed at the same time as the gun tax requires gun owners to immediately report cases of lost and stolen firearms to police.

There are several reasons the ammosexual extremists who slavishly pledge their allegiance to the NRA–and the NRA itself–are so opposed to the Seattle measure:

  • It might mean that fewer guns are sold. Oh no!
  • The money will be used to prevent gun violence, which the NRA loves to deny is a problem in the United States.
  • If gun owners and dealers have to report lost or stolen guns, that will possibly prevent illegal straw sales or deals done in the back rooms or under the counters of gun shops.
  • The NRA hates to lose because it happens so rarely. When it does, they tend to take it as a personal affront to their lobbying/bribery/intimidation efforts.

There is little doubt that the NRA will appeal this ruling all the way to the Supreme Court, as is their right under the legal system. But as gun deaths continue to skyrocket in the United States, and as more people get more fed up with the ease of buying a gun in this country, the reversals against Second Amendment absolutists will mount. And then the balance of sanity will perhaps be returned to this issue.

It’s Christmas. Am I not entitled to this one wish for a better future?

Bad News For The NRA: A Gun Store Just Lost A Lawsuit For Selling A Gun

Badger Guns in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is one of the largest sellers of crime-linked guns, was found liable on Tuesday and ordered to pay nearly $6 million in damages to two Milwaukee police officers who were injured when a man shot them with a so-called “straw purchase” gun.

The gun store was accused of encouraging an illegal straw purchase of the gun used in the crime. A straw purchase is when a gun is purchased in someone else’s name for another person who legally cannot own a gun.

Jurors in Milwaukee County found for the cops who filed the lawsuit,  Officer Bryan Norberg and now-retired Officer Graham Kunisch, both of whom were shot in the face in the line of duty in 2009.

Julius Burton paid a 21-year-old friend $40 to come with him and buy a gun at Badger Guns. Surveillance video even showed Burton pointing to the Taurus semiautomatic he wanted and saying, “That’s the one that I want.” A month later, Burton shot the two police officers with the Taurus handgun. One officer lost an eye and has brain damage, while the other was badly wounded in the face.

The case is incredibly significant because there have been very few successful lawsuits against gun stores for straw purchases.

Timothy D. Lytton, an expert in tort law and gun cases at the Georgia State University College of Law, remarked afterthe verdict:

“It may well embolden more plaintiffs to bring lawsuits. And give new momentum to a litigation campaign that looked all but dead after 2005.”

In 2005, President George W. Bush, operating as the obedient puppet of the National Rifle Association, signed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which was a sop to gun nuts across the country.

Today, however, the NRA may be looking over their shoulder. This will likely be only the first of numerous lawsuits of its type. To which I say, Good! Hey, NRA, feeling a little queasy? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

6 Disgusting Lies The NRA Posted On Social Media After The Oregon Shootings

The National Rifle Association (NRA) never ceases to amaze, repel, and utterly disgust me. One would think the NRA (which is heavily financed by gun manufacturers and therefore has a hidden agenda when it comes to the topic of sensible gun control) would want to keep a low profile after the horrible deaths of 10 people at Umpqua Community College (U.C.C) in Roseburg, Oregon.

But instead, within hours of the shootings, the NRA took to social media and began spewing out lies that they had to know were patently untrue. Here are six that prove once and for all the NRA stands for money and their own bloody agenda over human life:

A blatant lie the NRA has been peddling for years. Sellers at gun shows are allowed to sell weapons without background checks, waiting periods, or paperwork through what are known as “private sales.”

Here’s another one of their totally false tweets:

Is that right? No, it most certainly isn’t. In 1996, Australia implemented a gun buyback program that managed to get 650,000 assault weapons out of public circulation following a gun massacre. Semi-automatic rifles were banned and licensing requirements were tightened. Suicides and homicides involving guns have been also dramatically reduced. Also, it was not “confiscation,” yet another fear word the NRA loves to use because they know the facts are not on their side.

Another lie:

There is absolutely no evidence that gun-free zones are the cause of mass shootings, and the NRA also neglects to mention that the majority (86%) happen outside of gun-free zones. Again, to do so would not support their extreme view of gun ownership, so they resort to a lie in the belief that no one will bother to seek out the truth.

Let’s see if the NRA can tell the truth at all with this one:

Wow, there are so many lies here it would take weeks to cover them all, but we can say this: In 2014, there were over8,000 homicides involving guns (not just rifles, as the NRA wants to state it), compared with 769 homicides using a “personal weapon” like hands, feet, or another body part. As for the gun show assertion, the NRA doesn’t bother to mention that most people do indeed get their firearms from a gun show. In fact, “3 out of 10 guns that criminals use in crimes changed hands at a gun show somewhere in their chain of custody.”

Just to be “fair and balanced” as the Fox News puppets like to say, let’s give the NRA one more shot at telling the truth:

No. The real ignorance–the willful ignorance, which is the worst ignorance of all–is on the part of the NRA. Profit comes first, lives come a distant second, and they are more than willing to vomit out as many lies as necessary in order to maintain the status quo. They have blood on their hands, and all over their false words.

NRA Claims New Rules To Prevent The Mentally Ill, Wife Beaters From Getting Guns Are ‘Assault On 2nd Amendment’

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is once again cranking up its propaganda machine in response to new federal rules from the Obama Administration that are designed to keep the mentally ill and domestic abusers from acquiring guns.

The Justice Department is planning to implement at least a dozen new regulations related to guns while President Obama is still in office.

The NRA, in their typically hyperbolic manner, calls the new rules an attack on the Second Amendment and also claims the Administration is full of “gun grabbers.” Luke O’Dell of the National Association for Gun Rights said:

“It’s clear President Obama is beginning his final assault on our Second Amendment rights by forcing his anti-gun agenda on honest law-abiding citizens through executive force.”

Sure they are. Because we all feel safer sleeping in our beds at night knowing that the mentally ill and wife beaters have access to an arsenal.

Michael Hammond, legislative counsel for the Gun Owners of America, even tried to defend the right of those who commit domestic abuse owning guns:

“That could be a person who spanked his kid, or yelled at his wife, or slapped her husband. The Obama administration is trying very hard to disqualify people from owning a gun on the basis that they are seeing a psychologist.”

Next thing you know, they’ll be rounding us all up and putting us into concentration camps, just like they did in Nazi Germany!

The NRA, as you might expect, also had to weigh in with their assessment of the regulations:

“A person who experienced a temporary reaction to a traumatic event or who has trouble handling household finances may well be treated the same as a violent psychopath. Not only is this unjust and stigmatizing, it creates disincentives for those who need mental health treatment to seek it, increasing whatever risks are associated with untreated mental illness.”

Here is a fact about the NRA that I have understood and accepted for years now: They are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the gun and ammunition manufacturers across this country and around the world who do not give a diddly-damn about the Second Amendment. These merchants of death and destruction only care about enriching themselves while blood continues to flow in American streets.

The NRA is a bunch of lying hypocrites who will stoop to any level in the hope of making sure the United States remains the most heavily armed and violent nation on the planet. They are the problem, and they offer absolutely no solutions.
