Congress Foreign Policy GOP WTF?!

GOP Congressman Says ‘Little Girls’ Will Be ‘Raped And Killed’ If Afghan Refugees Are Allowed Into The US

Now that Republicans have come to the realization that they can’t stop the complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, they’ve decided they’ll shift gears and try to demonize the Afghan refugees who helped our troops and are now hoping to become American citizens.

Such is the case with Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), who says Afghan refugees could wind up raping and killing “little girls” in the streets.

Perry was a guest on Greta Van Susteren’s “Full Court Press” show, Vice News reports, and he said he voted against the ALLIES Act which would expedite the visa applications for Afghan refugees and also increase the total number that would be allowed entry to the United States because:

“I don’t think it’s appropriate to bring poorly vetted people from an Islamic state to the United States of America. I represent the United States of America and American citizens, and it’s my job and I think it’s this Congress’s job to ensure their safety.”

Yep, the GOP’s blatant Islamophobia is back again, even though a Republican president, Donald Trump, was responsible for starting the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

If Afghan refugees are allowed into the country, Perry warned, there would be dire consequences:

“Even when we were talking about interpreters that work with the military, there was also plenty of evidence that they would turn on their Americans and actually be part of the complex or less-than-complex attacks against the very Americans they were working with. So I found this highly, highly questionable and I wanted to see it tightened up very much before I would sign my name onto it. I’m not going to be responsible for seeing our little girls raped and killed in the streets because we wanted to bring people that are poorly vetted into the United States.”

Of course, what Perry didn’t mention and Van Susteren failed to remind him is that immigrants commit crimes at a much lower rate than native-born Americans.

According to a study from the University of Wisconsin at Madison:

“Compared to undocumented immigrants, U.S. citizens were twice as likely to be arrested for violent felonies in Texas from 2012 to 2018, two-and-a-half times more likely to be arrested for felony drug crimes, and over four times more likely to be arrested for felony property crimes, according to a study published by University of Wisconsin–Madison researchers today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”

Congressman Perry, like nearly every Republican, has no solutions to the problems which confront this country or the world. They just have lies and fear, which they use to keep their supporters in the dark.
