Sean Penn: Dick Cheney Is An ‘Embittered Bacteria Of Humanity’

I’ve always liked Sean Penn. Matter of fact, I think he’s one of the best actors of his generation. His performances in movies such as “Dead Man Waking,” “Mystic River,” and “Milk” are some of the finest moments of acting I think you’ll find in the past half-century of American cinema.

But today, thanks to a recent appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show, I like him even more. While talking to Conan, Penn let loose on former Vice President Dick Cheney — aka Dr. Evil — and wondered aloud why a man who had done so many bad things is still alive. Penn called Cheney an “embittered bacteria of humanity” and then added:

“It’s always a surprise to me to remember that, through bionic technology and so on, this guy’s still here”

But Penn wasn’t finished lambasting Cheney, and he asked a very valid question: Why someone as dedicated to humanity as the late Harvey Milk, whom Penn won an Oscar portraying in 2009, is taken too soon by an assassin’s bullet while Cheney gets to remain:

“We have people like Harvey Milk, who were beautiful, brilliant, impactful guys, and, you know–it’s just no good deed will go unpunished, and then you’ve got the Cheneys. This is just me musing.”

Penn also noted that the reason the terrorist group ISIS is now causing so much suffering in the Middle East and around the world can be laid at the feet of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney:

“These are the guys–he and President Bush and some others–who invented Daesh, or ISIS. I mean, they really are that which created it, and so I wanted to give him a shout out. Thanks for that.”

When I watched the video of Penn’s performance on YouTube, I was smiling the entire time. That’s probably because I agree with every word he said.

Penn has a new movie, “The Gunman,” opening in theaters this weekend, and I plan to go see it. Not because I’m itching to see the film, but because I want to send a message to Sean Penn about how proud I am of him for saying what he said.

Watch Sean Penn give Dick Cheney hell!
