REPORT: Mueller Focusing On Money Laundering By Trump, Kushner

Knowing what we do about the attorneys already hired by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, we can begin to speculate on the charges he will seek to prove against President Trump and other members of the Trump campaign.

So far, there have been reports that Mueller is making a case against Trump for obstruction of justice related to the firing of FBI Director James Comey, colluding with a foreign government, and violations of campaign finance law which prohibit foreign money being used in American political campaigns. But a recent addition to Mueller’s so-called “dream team” of attorneys has now raised the specter of money laundering.

This week, Kyle Freeny, who previously worked in the division of the Justice Department that investigates financial crimes such as international money laundering, came aboard Mueller’s team. Prior to joining Mueller, according to a report in Politico:

“Freeny was shepherding the Justice Department’s headline-grabbing effort to seize the profits from the film The Wolf of Wall Street on grounds that the film was financed with assets looted from the Malaysian government.”

How does money laundering fit into the case being crafted by Mueller? For years, there has been speculation that both Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have taken illegal money from members of criminal organizations and those connected to the highest levels of the Russian government to finance real estate deals in New York City such as Kushner’s purchase of a skyscraper at 666 Fifth Avenue. Kushner purchased the property in 2007 for the price of $1.8 billion. The project is now in financial distress and could force Kusher to sell the building at a loss.

Freeny may also have been hired to take a closer look at meetings between Mike Flynn, Steve Bannon, and Jared Kushner with King Abdullah of Jordan. Reportedly, they were pushing a deal which would have built Russian nuclear reactors throughout the Middle East. Freeny, in addition to being a graduate of Harvard Law School, also speaks fluent Arabic and once taught school in Egypt.
