While most of us were enjoying the New Year’s holiday, prosecutors with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s staff have been busy in court, and one of their filings certainly seems to suggest that the Russia probe is very close to proving Donald Trump is a traitor.
According to Natasha Bertrand of The Atlantic, prosecutors filed a joint status report regarding Sam Patten, a lobbyist who has extensive ties to 2016 Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian intelligence officer who was intimately involved in the attack on the 2016 presidential election. Kilimnik has also been indicted in absentia by Mueller for obstruction of justice:
Interesting. Government just filed a joint status report under seal for Sam Patten, a Manafort/Kilimnik associate who pleaded guilty in August to failing to register as a foreign agent and admitted to steering foreign funds to Trump's inaugural. He's been cooperating ever since. pic.twitter.com/pgedX5KtcE

While you may never have heard of Patten, he’s a key figure in the Russia probe. As CNN reported recently:
“Washington lobbyist W. Samuel Patten, who has been one of the most low-profile but potentially significant cooperators in the special counsel’s office investigation, appears to still be involved with sensitive aspects of Robert Mueller and the Justice Department’s work.”
The full filing itself was done under seal, but even though we cannot yet see the details of it, the fact that Patten is named and cooperating fully with Mueller has got to have Trump on edge. Why? Well, because as part of his plea agreement, Patten admitted that he laundered at least $50,000 from Russian spy Kilimnik through the Trump inaugural committee.
Though Trump’s legal team tried to dismiss Patten’s plea deal and cooperation as having “not a single thing” to do with the president or “collusion,” the fact that Patten is still telling what he knows to Mueller’s team is significant, and it also suggests that the Russia probe is indeed looking at money laundering, which Trump has been suspected of for decades.
If the link can be established by Mueller that Russian funds were given to the Trump inaugural committee, that would provide absolute proof of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. Clearly, Patten can prove that link, and that means Trump is screwed.
So Happy 2019! It’s going to be a very bad year for the incumbent president and a great one for the Resistance.
