NC Governor Gets Called Out On National TV For Bathroom Law (Video)

North Carolina has stepped into a huge pile of national controversy and economic consequence as a result of the passage of HB2, which blatantly discriminates against the LGBT community. And on Sunday the utterly clueless GOP Governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, showed up on “Meet the Press.” The way things went for McCrory, he’s still probably kicking himself for agreeing to the interview.

McCrory began in typical Republican defense mode, blaming the controversy over HB2 on liberals. McCrory claimed that as Governor, it was his job to prevent “government overreach” by cities like Charlotte, which had passed an ordinance allowing transgender people to use the restroom of their choice:

“It was the left that brought about the bathroom bill, not the right. The city of Charlotte passed a mandate on every private sector employer in North Carolina, one of the largest cities in the United States of America. And I think that’s government overreach.”

Translation: Sure, I and the rest of the North Carolina GOP are a bunch of narrow-minded bigots who are afraid to go to the bathroom with anyone who might be the least bit different from us, but blame Charlotte for daring to try and give equality to the transgendered.

Host Chuck Todd wasted no time taking that line of logic and using it to beat McCrory to a pulp, asking:

“You talk about overreach. You say Charlotte overreached. How did the state of North Carolina, the state government not overreach in just the same way?

“This has been a long debate in the city of Charlotte, this is where they came down. You guys debated for like 10 seconds.”

Game, set, and match Mr. Todd.

McCrory then whined:

“We’ve got to have more dialog and not threats.”

Once again, Todd used the Governor’s own words against him:

“That’s a very thoughtful thing for you to say about dialog. Where was the dialog?”

The North Carolina Governor finally admitted that he had never met with the transgender community before signing the law, but then used the false equivalency of saying that the Human Rights Council is “more powerful than the NRA.” He then added this pile of crap that no one in their right mind would ever believe:

“Which makes me want to overturn [Citizens United] because I don’t know who their donors are. They are putting on a lot of pressure instead of having good dialog.”

Here’s the video. Try not to laugh too much as McCrory gets his every argument shot down in flames:
