People on the right love to say that there’s no such thing as “white privilege” in America. Everyone, they maintain, gets treated equally regardless of their skin color, and this is proven by the fact that we’ve elected a black man as President for two straight elections. But what three Texas police officers did recently at the Chilfest country music festival being held near Texas A&M University would suggest otherwise.
The officers were about to issue a citation to a young white girl at the concert for underage drinking. So she offered to play them a game of rock-paper-scissors and proceeded to win. Seems her rock smashed the heck out of the officer’s scissors. The cops then walked away as the unidentified girl celebrated with friends.
And the whole thing was caught on video!
The three officers now face disciplinary action, according to Dennis Gass, constable for Burleson County Precinct 2 – which employed the officers to provide security at the music festival. Constable Gass added:
“I have seen the video and can only say that this is unacceptable and unprofessional conduct by these officers. (Playing) games to get someone out of a ticket, I have a problem with that. It gives all of us a bad name.”
The names of the three officers involved in the rock-paper-scissors incident at Chilifest were not released, but their actions are in stark contrast to another encounter between police officers and a young black man which was also captured on video and went viral.
Junior college student Samir Hill said two Philadelphia police officers attempted to arrest him after they challenged him to a pickup basketball game and he beat them. The officers returned two days later and detained Hill for two hours before letting him go without any charges being filed.
So the next time someone tells you there’s no such thing as white privilege in America, simply show them the video of what took place in Texas and ask them, “What does this look like to you? Just a friendly child’s game?”
