Mitt Romney Slams Tulsi Gabbard For Parroting ‘Treasonous Lies’ From Russia

Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney says he’s sick and tired of former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard serving as an eager disseminator of Russian “lies,” and is making it clear he considers her recent comments on “bioweapons labs” in Ukraine to be “treasonous.”

Romney slammed Gabbard by writing:

“Tulsi Gabbard is parroting false Russian propaganda. Her treasonous lies may well cost lives.”

According to Salon, Romney’s harsh reaction comes after Gabbard made comments on Fox News and a video she posted to Twitter:

Romney did not specify which remarks by Gabbard he meant, but his tweet came after she told Fox News host Tucker Carlson in an interview that she was “deeply concerned” about claims of bioweapons in Ukraine. In a video posted to Twitter on Sunday, the former Hawaii congresswoman claimed there were more than 25 “US-funded biolabs in Ukraine which if breached would release & spread deadly pathogens.”

Carlson and other conservatives have spread a conspiracy theory that the Biden administration was funding biological weapons laboratories in Ukraine but there is no evidence to support the claims, The New York Times reported last week. The U.S. has provided funding to several organizations in Ukraine to prevent the production of biological weapons, according to the report.

Rather than apologize, Gabbard doubled down in a long Twitter thread, repeating her lies about bioweapons being produced in Ukraine with the approval of the United States:

“Evidence of the existence of such biolabs, their vulnerability, and thus the need to take immediate action to secure them is beyond dispute.”

Gabbard then demanded that Romney resign:

“Senator Romney, please provide evidence that what I said is untrue and treasonous. If you cannot, you should do the honorable thing: apologize and resign from the Senate.”

The simple fact is that Gabbard is indeed spreading Russian propaganda, with Mediaite noting:

Russia has made dozens of claims about Ukraine and the United States that run the gamut from dubious to preposterous, and among them are the accusations of nuclear weapons stashed in the country, and that there are biological and chemical weapons being researched or developed there. The Dept. of Defense and the Pentagon have repeatedly stated this is not so, and moreover that it is the habit of Putin’s Russia to assert crimes are being committed by others before committing those crimes themselves.

Tulsi Gabbard is a Russian asset. It’s time she bought a plane ticket to Moscow so she can be closer to her hero, Vladimir Putin.
