Lauren Boebert Says ‘The Constitution Does Not Guarantee Us Rights’

There’s an old expression that is more relevant than ever when it comes to the vast majority of elected representatives from the Republican Party: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

Serving as today’s example of that expression is Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), who says the U.S. Constitution “does not guarantee us rights.”

Here’s the problem with the GED queen’s pronouncement, which would be obvious to her if she had actually read the Constitution: There’s a Bill of Rights that does indeed guarantee us certain rights, as historians at the National Archives explain:

The Bill of Rights is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. It spells out Americans’ rights in relation to their government. It guarantees civil rights and liberties to the individual—like freedom of speech, press, and religion. It sets rules for due process of law and reserves all powers not delegated to the Federal Government to the people or the States. And it specifies that “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

Certainly sounds like we are indeed guaranteed some rights, doesn’t it? If Congresswoman Boebert disagrees with this, then she should stop voting because women don’t have any rights (i.e. the right to vote or own property) the way the document was originally written. Additionally, she needs to hand over all of her guns, because there is absolutely no right to own weapons if the Constitution doesn’t contain that guarantee.

It didn’t take long before social media gave Boebert a badly-needed lesson in political science.
