Abortion Elections GOP Reproductive RIghts in America

Jim Jordan Urges GOP Midterm Candidates To ‘Lean Into’ The Party’s Efforts To Ban Abortion

With Labor Day having now come and gone, the final two months of campaigning has begun for the 2022 midterm election, which at one time were predicted to be a massive “red wave” that would carry Republicans into control of both the House and Senate.

Increasingly, however, it looks like the Supreme Court’s June ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization could turn the red wave blue, according to the Associated Press:

The political landscape, while still in flux, follows a string of President Joe Biden’s legislative victories on climate, health care and gun violence, just as Donald Trump’s hand-picked candidates in electoral battlegrounds like Arizona, Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania struggle to broaden their appeal. But nothing has undermined the GOP’s momentum more than the Supreme Court’s stunning decision in June to end abortion protections, which triggered a swift backlash even in the reddest of red states.

“This midterm looks and feels significantly different than it did six months ago,” said veteran Republican pollster Neil Newhouse. The abortion ruling “has energized some segments, especially the Democratic constituency, and it has thrown a wrench, at least to some extent, into the hopes of winning a ton of seats.”

Polling in key battleground states — Arizona, Georgia Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — suggests Democrats will likely add or hold seats in the U.S. Senate, which would give them a significant advantage on all sorts of issues.

Yet despite the bad omens looming for Republicans, one of their most outspoken members, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) says he thinks GOP candidates should “lean into” the Dobbs decision and the party’s attempts to ban all abortions.

Jordan was a guest on “Fox & Friends” this morning, and he was asked how he thought Republicans should handle “messaging” the abortion issue, to which he replied:

“Lean into it! We’re the pro-life party. We’re going to protect the sanctity of human life and Democrats have the radical position! They’re the ones that think that you should be able to take the unborn child’s life right up until their birthday, for goodness sake!

“That is frightening, so lean into it! We’re the party that’s going to protect the sanctity of human life like we’ve always been. This was a huge win for the precious nature of human life and I don’t think we should shy away from it.”

Yes, by all means lean into it! Maybe then we can get rid of even more Republicans and relegate them to permanent minority status.
