Gun Loving GOPer Says No To Town Halls With Constituents Because He’s Afraid He’ll Be Shot

You would think that a Republican member of Congress from Texas who gets an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association wouldn’t be too much of a spineless wimp to hold a town hall meeting with his constituents, but Louie Gohmert has decided he won’t face voters, and he claims it’s all because of what happened to former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was shot at a constituent event in 2011.

In a statement, Gohmert announced:

“At this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety.

“Threats are nothing new to me and I have gotten my share as a felony judge. However, the House Sergeant at Arms advised us after former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot at a public appearance, that civilian attendees at Congressional public events stand the most chance of being harmed or killed—just as happened there.”

In lieu of having an actual town hall, Gohmert says he will instead hold phone town halls. Gohmert claims this will allow more of his constituents to participate in the process:

“This technology allows the inclusion of our disabled and more elderly seniors who have opinions but who could not otherwise come to an actual town hall meeting and ask questions.
“Then, when the threat of violence at town hall meetings recedes, we can go back to having the civil town hall meetings I’ve had in the past to supplement the masses reached in our telephone town halls. “

What Louie the Lone Star weasel neglected to mention is that phone-in town hall meetings also allow his staff to screen the calls that are allowed to reach the congressman. And it prevents Gohmert from having to look voters in the eye as he lies to them.

Gohmert is afraid. Not of being shot, but of being peppered with endless questions about why he wants to take away affordable health insurance from his constituents and why he refuses to say a cross word about the dangerous megalomaniac in the White House.

Hey, Louie, you might want to grow a pair before you head back to Washington.
