GOP’s Elise Stefanik Gets Hit With Angry Backlash For Her ‘Faux Outrage’ Over Baby Formula Shortage

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is the third-highest ranking member of the House GOP leadership, and comments she made regarding the current shortage of baby formula in the United States has her in very hot water.

First of all, it’s instructive to note exactly why the problem of a formula shortage exists in the first place.

Vox explains one contributing factor:

The shortage can be traced back to a contamination problem at an Abbott factory that produces much of the Similac formula, as well as several other brands, for the US market, Abbott voluntarily shut down the factory in February, amid consumer complaints about contaminated formula that was linked to two infant deaths.

Combined with that contamination issue is a moronic trade policy left in place by the Trump administration, The Atlantic reports:

U.S. policy also restricts the importation of formula that does meet FDA requirements. At high volumes, the tax on formula imports can exceed 17 percent. And under President Donald Trump, the U.S. entered into a new North American trade agreement that actively discourages formula imports from our largest trading partner, Canada.

Stefanik decided to wade into this morass with two ill-informed tweets she sent out in which she seemed to blame the problem on everyone and everything but the Knights Templar and solar flares.

“The White House, House Dems, & usual pedo grifters are so out of touch with the American people that rather than present ANY PLAN or urgency to address the nationwide baby formula crisis, they double down on sending pallets of formula to the southern border. Joe Biden has NO PLAN”

That was all it took for Stefanik to get blasted on social media for her suggestion that the president should let brown children starve to death and make sure that all formula goes to American kids. It even earned her a nickname that quickly became a hashtag: #EliseStarvefanik.

Note to Congresswoman Stefanik: You’re a monster. And a racist. And a hypocrite. Thanks for letting the entire world know what sort of ghoul you are.
