Former President Jimmy Carter: Jesus Would Approve Of Gay Marriage (Video)

No doubt I’m biased when it comes to former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter. I think he’s one of the greatest men I’ve ever had the honor to meet. And since we’re both from Georgia, he holds a special place in my heart.

Religion, I’m sure you know, is a big part of President Carter’s life. Always has been. When he’s in Plains, Georgia, at his home, he still teaches Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church. I have been fortunate enough to see him teach this class, and it is a memory I will always cherish.

And now President Carter, in an interview with Marc Lamont Hill on HuffPost Live, has spoken out on the Supreme Court’s recent ruling which legalized same-sex marriage across the nation. President Carter said he firmly believes Jesus would approve of gay marriage:

“I believe Jesus would. I don’t have any verse in scripture….I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else.”

The 39th President is current promoting his newest memoir, A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety. It’s hard for me to believe President Carter is already 90 years old. But trust me, I’ve watched him volunteer at Habitat for Humanity builds and know he can outwork most men half his age.

I may be biased, but I think we can all agree that Jimmy Carter is a true American hero and represents what is best about this country.
