Former Federal Prosecutor Says He Expects A Criminal Indictment Of Mark Meadows Any Day Now

According to former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner, there’s a criminal indictment waiting to be handed down by the Justice Department with the name of former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on it.

The recent ruling from the Supreme Court that said failed, one-term former President Donald Trump cannot exert executive privilege, Kirschner noted, applies to Meadows, too, meaning that he can either cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection or he can be charged with a crime:

“We now know that the Department of Justice is factoring in the Supreme Court’s rejection of Donald Trump’s executive privilege claim. And that clears the decks for an indictment of Mark Meadows.”

Kirschner then explained why the Supreme Court ruling is so devastating for Meadows and other former aides who served in the Trump administration:

“Because if Donald Trump doesn’t have an executive privilege claim, then Mark Meadows can’t invoke Trump’s by extension. I was kind of hoping today [Friday] would be the day — the day that Mark Meadows was indicted. Why? Because today is day 45. Forty-five days since Congress referred Mark Meadows for criminal prosecution.”

However, Kirschner concluded that he expects we won’t have to wait much longer to see Meadows indicted for criminal contempt:

“It looks like we’ll have to wait. At least another couple of days because nobody gets indicted on the weekend, so Monday will be day 48. And if we have to wait another couple of days, or couple of weeks, so be it as long as that indictment comes.”
