Now that we know Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was so terrified on January 6, 2021 that he couldn’t run fast enough to get to safety as rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, Hawley is facing a groundswell of criticism for his complicity and hypocrisy.
Former D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone said today that he’s certainly not a fan of Hawley, and then he elaborated in a way that’s certain to enrage the senator even though it’s absolutely accurate.
Speaking to J.C. Whittington of Politico, Fanone said this about the Hawley running video just hours after the Missouri Republican had given a raised fist salute of support for the protesters hours earlier:
The video made Fanone angry, too, and he expressed that:
“That pisses me off. That guy’s a clown. Now you see the way that these guys perform in public, and then what they are in reality — you get a lot of that nonsense up here on Capitol Hill, with these members of Congress that have become like a caricature in the media, but in reality they have no character, they have no honor, they have no integrity, and the way that they behave outside of the camera’s eye is very different.”
Hawley is often mentioned as a top contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, but his chances of winning are not exactly helped by the video of him running away like a coward on Jan. 6 after he helped light the fuse that caused the insurrection. You just know his primary challengers are going to cut ads with Hawley raising his fist and then scurrying away like a startled rat.
Josh Hawley’s political obituary has now been written, and it just so happens that he’s the author.
